View Full Version : Me, my sketch book europe

07-12-2013, 05:03 AM
10 years of not making art.
One jaded heart.
18 days, 23,000 km and 2 sketchbooks.
I packed my bag and drew my heart out.
Enjoy :)

Hello there I already listed my drawings according to the country I listed. Those are the links ;)

czlian, welcome to the Art Journal forum.

People are asking for you to post the pictures in the thread itself, not as links. It is better if you post the pictures as pictures, not links. The reason for this is two-fold. One, some people who have dial up internet (and yes there are still some of those out there) will not click on the link to see your drawings because they are likely to take a while. Instead they will just move onto the next thread. Two, links can go dead. A year from now, will those links still be available if someone is going through looking at things? You may say, yes. But life is uncertain.

You are much more likely to get comments if the pictures are physically in the thread. People can see them and leave you a comment.

I said :" You're free now"
She said: " We were all born free"

I send her this postcards as I journey on my own with just my pen, sketchbook and some watercolors.

18 days on the road. I saw great sights, tasted good food and met many friendly people who would take photos of me sketching, talking to me. (Even the french was nice to me) I fell in love with Art again and feel the joy it gave once to me and to others :) I had no pressure to perform, no worries about living up to standard, no style to compiled to or any sort of stuff like that. I found back what I missed the most in life.

Sometimes, I wished I was an American or an European, where arts is more viable as a livelihood. Perhaps, next life, if there is one :)

Wonderful sketches and photos!!!

Somewhere near my hotel in Paris. I spotted a Party and joined them with my drawing :)

And I drew and I drew and I drew. That is all I can do. All i wanted to do. All that can take my mind off the many hiccups of life. Here in paris. I googled for top cafe and found one recommended near my Hotel. I sat and I drew and people loved it :)

I climbed mountains, hills, scaled up all sort of monuments for this trip. Here at the MNAC in Barcelona, I tried to take in everything on a beautiful sunset dday. Right before the fountain spray I finished this drawing.

and I drew and I drew. Just exactly how much is good enough for me to be good enough to live as an Artist ?

Wonderful sketches. Thank you so much for posting them here.

As to your question about living as an artist. If you make art, you are an artist. Now making a living wage as an artist in another question entirely.

I'm enchanted with your sketching style.

love these, and the way you photographed them

THank you for posting the photos! I followed a couple of your links, but the photos you took holding the sketches in front of the scene were great. I got to see the context and how much detail you managed to get in your sketches. I also love the watercolored version of the Eiffel Tower one, your pen work is good but the washes and color really make that one. Thanks for sharing them!

Excellent sketches!

Wonderful sketches!!! Your ink style is very impressive. I love the way you photographed the sketches against the backdrop too. Thanks for sharing your travels.

Wow, this is awesome. I love how you took the picture of your sketchbook in front of what you were drawing.

How do you manage to draw while you're touring? Are you on a self-tour or with other people? Because I travel with other (impatient) people and I see the sites with a group, I can't manage as much detail as you. I have to rush my sketches or take my reference pictures to sketch from later.

What great sketches! Your crowd scenes are wonderful. And I too love how you photographed the sketches in front of your subject matter.

07-24-2013, 02:12 PM
Thanks !!! :) Yeah I just travel solo and I hope to do it again soon. Its harder when you travel with others :)

great sketches! I enjoyed the virtual tour as well :)

Those are awesome!!
I'm not a fan of the marker sketches, as detail was lost, but I'm sure the process was fun for you. And that's the point, right, to have fun!
I love, love, love the ink sketches, especially with just a hint of colour. That works best, IMO, as it doesn't detract from the cleanness of the ink lines.

And what a great idea to photo your page in front of the reference material! That really emphasizes your skill!

Thank you so much for sharing!
