It has been really hot today. . . 110! So I kept the dogs inside and did some sketching.

I had this Strathmore Dry Media 400 series a while and never used it . . . it is 9.5 x 12 Spiral. This is from photo from the Oil Pastel June Challenge.

I took the artistic license of using just the cookies and not the cup of tea. Thought they were interesting textures so that is what I was trying for.

I love the texture you have got on the skin with the oil pastels. Very clever to get such fine spots with thick sticks.

Cheers

Rainy, both of these are so luscious and edible and realist - are you channeling Yusuke with your oil pastels? I'm stunned at the detail and realism. Wonderful accuracy and sensual interpretation. You're making me hungry, you know that.

Thank you very much Debby, Robert, LoriZ, Viv, Dragoon, Jan, Lesley, Joan, and Tangerine!

Jan, oil pastels are my first love when it comes to color. . . I also very much enjoy other media though so its hard to limit to one.

Robert, that is high praise that I seem to be studying Yusuke since he is amazing!

Here is another texture. . . glass.

You are really good with the oil pastels. How do you use them? Obviously with solvent, but drawing then dissolving? Or picking colour up from the sticks with a brush?

Thank you Pat and Viv.

I don't use solvent. . . I use the oil psatels on the paper and then I use something to smooth it out. . . finger, stump, tortillion, color shaper, or pencil eraser or sometimes just blend with the OP themselves and layer kinda like dry pastels. Robert Sloan has a great site on using OP (its in his sig line at bottom of his posts)

Just some doodles in a generic sketchbook. . . been a hectic month but thought I'd pop in and see what everyone was doing in their journals.
