Hi, my name is Lesley. I've been an artist for more years than I care to remember, working mainly in pastels, watercolour, graphite and coloured pencil. I'm usually over on the pastel forum. Over the past two years I lost my mum, my dog and my brother, and just stopped painting completely, creativity just disappeared. Then a little while ago I got Cathy Johnson's book Art Journal Workshop, and tentatively started to draw again. I've got very rusty, but it is so lovely to create again, even if they are only small pics - working up to bigger things I hope! Have been looking at all the lovely sketchbboks and journals here, and looking forward to sharing.

This is an old unfinished book I dug out, nice for drawing but the watercolours are a bit dull. Have just got three new S&B books, looking forward to trying them.

Here's my first drawing for several months!

beautiful feathering on the bird and the foot study is wonderful. I find bird feet hard to get accurate

Finvarra ~ I know first hand how loss can paralyze us. It's good that you're back to your art. I like your puffin and I hope to see more of your journal soon.

Thanks for the welcome everyone, and nice comments. Here are a couple more sketches - seems like a bird theme is developing :) Glen Doll is a lovely place to walk about an hour away from my home. The chaffinch sat on the wing mirror of the car while we ate our lunch inside, and tapped on the window to be fed - he hopped onto my finger to take some food.

The other birds come to the feeders in our garden.

Cheers

Brown Hare. There are lots of these in the fields around my home.
I used my ancient dip pen, I haven't done any old fashioned pen and ink for years, really enjoyed it. It looked a bit harsh when finished, so I added a 'wash' of those lovely earthy Derwent drawing pencils, which brought it to life I think.

Beautiful work! Your rabbit made me think of Albrecht Durer.

Even though you stopped your artwork for a few yrs, you haven't lost any of your ability. Good good sketches.

These are wonderful. I particularly like the hare but am also a bird lover so I can't choose.

Beautiful journal! I hope to see lots more. Re the puffins beaks; they are only bright red during the mating season I believe. I once went out to the Isle of May (off the fife coast) to see them. What a show!
