Sometimes I get so close to my paintings that I lose all objectivity. I'm not sure if this appears balanced. I like her face, but as the background progressed, I'm not sure if things are skewed. Or not? Is something missing? Is there too much? Like I've said, would love your input.

This is half sheet, Arches 300# hot press, W/N pigments.

Terry, it looks great to me. Because you have a diagonal from the upper right to the lower left I think it's visually balanced.

Thanks for your thoughts, Jan. do the values right behind her appear too strong?

I don't think so...it blends very well and creates nice contrasts.

Sign and frame it, Terry! This is a beautiful portrait and the background isn't competing for attention in any way.

Agree with Char, already finished! A beautiful painting.
Have been going back through a lot of your threads, fabulous style and work.

The composition is working well. Only thing that bugs me is her ear... not sure if it's an earring or a drip, but her ear looks like it's bleeding to me. And now, I can't un-see it. Everything else is fabulous though!

Looks very good to me. If I were to be picky, I would add a little darker value in the eye area, but really not necessary. A lovely portrait.

Thanks for your candid comments. You all have been most helpful. I also received a private message with some advice, too. I will post the finished product soon on the Watercolor Gallery.

I really love this website. Where else can you get such discerning eyes, those that totally understand the medium and the challenges that we face? Your feedback is most valuable to me, and I really appreciate it.

In my mind it is finished. It is a lovely portrait and I do like the background as is.

I don't really have any issues with this painting. Lovely work. I might give some thought to adding some definition to that lower left area. It's the only area that is "out of focus", making it seem kind of odd or unfinished.
