I love the tulip reference. I changed the composition slightly and decided to do a detailed drawing which too about an hour. This is a WIP with only a little completed by the time the 2-hour limit was up. I decided to start with the background as the tulips will be almost completely white when finished. I wanted the background very dark on the left and lighter on the right. I sprinkled som salt on the far right - not sure if I like it and will decide later.
Paper: Lanaqualle 12x16 cold-press block

Jan, love the bg. . .what colors did you use? The salt effect almost looks like a Baby's Breath plant. Way to go!!

Lovely background will be a great foil for white tulips. Like the flower effect you got from the salt:)

Great start Jan! I can see this is going to be another of your beautiful negative paintings.

Thank you everyone for your generous comments. I used Winsor Newton paints: Permanent Rose and Winsor Blue (red shade) adding a small amount of Brown Madder, varying dominance of any one color when putting it on the paper. Didn't do too much more but here is where I am. If the painting comes out good, I will put the complete WIP in the Watercolor Studio forum.
