The Nepean Fine Arts League (Ottawa, Canada) held it's annual membership show which comprised Oil, Acrylic, WC and Other media.

Any member can submit 1 painting each. Entries are not juried. The show is hung about 2 weeks before the members night. About 60 members submitted.

On that evening members vote for their favorite painting and the votes are tallied.....only one award is given to the member receiving the most votes.

Prior to that, however, the show is judged by others and awards are given out accordingly in the 4 mediums.
Naturally goodies are served and awards presented in a small theatre.

The main hall...

And yours truly took the members choice for "Did You Bring Apples"
Its always somewhat enjoyable to beat out those other mediums...

Ottawa is really a fine city for art groups and they all do a great job in providing an outlet for amateur artists....

Thanks for looking

Way to go!

Just an observation about that voting system ...
What would they do if everyone voted for his own painting? There would be no winner with each painting getting exactly one vote. Or was that allowed? Having everyone rank their top 3 choices for favourite would be a more valid method.

Anyways ... they chose the right one. ;)

Thank you, Brian for the trip to the "National Capital Region". Makes me homesick; Ottawa is my hometown.

Congratulations on your success with your beautiful painting! I'm not at all surprised. I loved it when you posted it in the Gallery, and so did the many WCers who commented on it. It 's very special, and you should feel very proud!

Cheers, Anne

Thank you all.....I must admit that I didn't think "cute" would be in the running and as far as the appointed judges/jurors (3) were concerned, I guess it wasn't and after the winners in the WC category were named, I figured that was it and with the Members Choice Award being given last, I must admit I was surprised.

Don't know where you live in Atlantic Canada, but 3 of the best years of my life were spent in Fredericton which as you most likely know, is a small version of Ottawa and where I took my 1st drawing lessons....;-)
The art community around the Gatineau/Ottawa area is huge.

Hi again, Brian. We lived in Fredericton for 17 years before retiring in our current location, the Memramcook Valley.

I agree with you that Fredericton is a smaller version of Ottawa. While living there I enjoyed several art-related trips organized by the Beaverbrook Art Gallery. I met several "kindred spirits" (art lovers) on those trips. WE were back in Fredericton for a visit just over a week ago. The river and downtown area are beautiful in the spring.

Cheers, Anne
