These were done in La Push, WA last week. This is my first time trying plein air with gouache and also my first time using a 1/2" flat like our wonderful Deborah Secor.

Critiques most welcome!!

Meg, I've been in the process of moving so I missed seeing these until now. I really like the saturated colors you used in the first one, and the brushwork is effective! The strong contrast in the second one is very dramatic, as well as the lovely lyrical treetop strokes. How did you like using the gouache outdoors? And the 1/2" brush?

Thanks, Deborah. I really like the 1/2" brush and will be using it a lot in the future! Outdoor gouache is also fun, but I certainly don't have a good setup for it yet. And the fact that it dries even faster on the palette is a challenge, and makes you work faster.
