View Full Version : Just begun portrait - looking for advice

I just started a new portrait. I decided to try a grisaille to start. However, just like my others I can't seem to get fine details right. I use a mahlstick at times, but it seems like my hand jerks around. I'm thinking most right now about the eye areas. Is it me? Is it my brushes?

I just started and got fed up so I thought I'd post it here and get some input.

It's a definite likeness and it looks okay from across the room but I want it to look good when I'm pretty close to it.

I'd appreciate any advice on painting wrinkles, too!

Would you mind if I copied this to the Portraiture forum? You'll get some very good help there also!
