As you can probably guess, I enjoy painting pears. When I first take up a new medium, pears are the first thing I usually paint. After these two little painting it is probably time to move on to other subjects. Maybe a more complex still life this weekend.

These two paintings were both started with Derwent Artbar under paintings on hp watercolor paper that were covered with two coats of clear gesso. I used Neopastel and Holbien sticks on top. They are both 5 x 7. C & c's are always welcomed.

Thanks for looking.

Doug, The color harmony is great in your first pear. I like all the textures. The pear is lovely in the second painting and I really like the underpainting showing through. I wonder what would happen if you toned down the purple shadow with a little pink or yellow.

You are doing a great job with the pears and they are such a wonderful shape to start with. I do like the first one best as it has that glow to it.

Sammy- Thanks for the kind words. I like the effect the can be achieved by leaving some of the under painting showing through. It also gives you a road map. That shadow isn't quite as dark IRL, and there is some magenta and pink in it, but it doesn't show much in the photo. I will take a look at it in the daylight. I was getting dark when I took the photo. Thanks for looking.

Pat- The joke in our house is that when I buy pears everyone asks if they are for eating or if they are for painting. I have them trained.:D I think I like the first one too. I softened the edges more on the first one. I have a good selection of fabric and I chose the green-blue for color harmony and the red for the complementary to green. Thanks for the encouraging words. I am having fun!

Hi Doug, I like both your pears. The second has a great shape, the first for the colors. Both seriously your style of leaving underpainting peaking through is perfect for this fruit.

Thanks, Mary. Pears have so many colours in them that you cans really go wrong. I love painting them.

Douglas, both really great pears. Love the first one with the beautiful shades of green - and then that lovely orange shining through. You have inspired me to try under painting myself - something I've never done so looking forward to giving it a go.

Hi! I like your pears! Did you see The Spotlight in soft Pastel talk? Maybe you can get some idea for pears. http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1319059
