While serving in Ark Royal in the 60's we had a Shackleton do a couple of CCA approaches right in to short finals, quite an uncomfortable feeling when you are used to Buccaneers and Sea Vixens on finals. Pretty amazing! Those pilots had never flown a 4 engined aircraft and had only a short period of training. It would take some guts to land a beast like that on a carrier without an arresting hook. Ya gotta love the Herc.

You ought to read Captain Eric "winkle" Browns book-wings on my sleeve.His aircraft landings were incredible.
