"Spring arrives after a long wait". Oil on MDF board 30 x 40 cms. A little more work to be done on shapes and colours yet.
Any suggestions welcomed.

Pleasing composition Ray. Like the way the eye is led away between the dark gate pillars and up the lane. Also like the ploughed field on the skyline. To my taste the near verge is a bit garish and too colourful but that is a matter of opinion. Think your fencing could have some darker edges on verticals and under horizontals away from light source. Also, a lighter left edge to the trunk of nearest tree so that shows up against dark background. Not sure about the chair - seems a little incongruous but you are probably right that the picture needs something in the foreground.
I think it makes a nice picture and I like the bold contrast-lights and darks you have painted.

Here's progress this week so far.
Still simplifying the shadows, I seem to have added a slope across the drive which is not intended !
The background field has been dulled down but still is a little too bright.
Still not happy with it yet but it's getting there. I'm really trying to get a feeling of
new vibrant spring flowers against mostly sleeping trees.
