Good morning all. A rather dull start to the day here, rain forecast for later 8C.

Theatre tonight, "Fawlty Towers" should be good. Pre theatre meal at a friend's house.

Bill, I forgot to say what a beautiful Magnolia photo you took. Miss feral looks comfortable :)

We have an airlock in the hot supply upstairs, water is very slow. Hope it resolves itself, it usually does.

Good morning, washers

Hi Doug

Ellen :crossfingers: for your son.
Bill - Ms Feral looks fierce and awesome. What a beauty.
Annie, what a lovely description of your symphony in paradise.
JJ - ((Esmerelda))

Lynn, I belong to a CarShare group called Zip Car and I absolutely love it. I joined when I sold my car a couple of years ago. I took the extra insurance coverage, and last year their car got banged up in the parking lot. I sent them photos, and they were just "Okay, you are insured, no problem." In my experience the cars are always where they should be, are always clean and ready to go, and always just purr along.

I finally broke down and ordered my canning jars on line, plus an extra box of lids and bands for the jars I have hanging around here. Jars came fine. Lids came without bands - different item number, I ordered correctly, they didnt read. Big frustrations with customer service - i.e., "Oh, send it back to us, we give give you a credit, and you can reorder" sounds more or less reasonable, but not when one gets used to some of the amazing customer service that is available on-line. With this company, a major hardware chain, no box, no return label, I would pay shipping (and not get it refunded). I ended the call, called again the next day, and told them I was less than happy with their customer service and intended to tell my friends. They backed off, said to keep the lids and they would send me the package of bands and lids.

Got them today - for 'wide mouth' jars, not what I ordered. Called again, more 'send them back' baloney. Grrr. If I am not happy by Monday I am going to tell all of you, and everyone I know, the name of the store.

Everything else is fine. I feel good. Louie is getting fat and sassy. The garden (terrace) is blooming.

Back later.

Evening all.

Doug we will have to coordinate on times. Hpoing our wifi can deal with a garden tour.

Doris, so sorry about your experience with the lack of service department. We have several in this country.

JJ at least they were honest enough to leave their details. How does one back into a parked car???? Betcha it was an urban assault vehicle. AKA 4WD.

I delayed the great provisioning expedition to pick up a friend who has some sort of rheumatological disorder. She is seeing specialists etc but she is getting so thin. I worry.Deposited her at her place of work in Samford and then ordeal by stupid market. Got home, after calling at the post office and just as WE were unloading the car Roger got a call from a mate. There's a job going at Coolangatta. He said no. Two plus hours there and two plus hours back ? NO. And we are not moving. However he was quite chuffed to get the offer.

Bit of gardening, bit of burning  How I love bonfires. Roger had the fireman helmet on tonight.

Got our first sugar loaf cabbage. Something with braised pork, crispy bacon, separately roasted tatie cubes, on a bed of steamed peppery cabbage and some sour cream tossed through. Forgot the pine nuts.

I'm inventing :crossfingers:

05-17-2013, 03:36 AM
Good to hear you are feeling better Doris, hope it stays that way.

Pity your online supplier has such a poor service. Last Item I bought was a tablet which proved faulty and I got a free courier collect and a refund from Misco.

05-17-2013, 03:40 AM
Hi Annie, we cross posted, I'm up now but will be out after 4pm.

05-17-2013, 03:55 AM
Alright Doug. Its dark and quiet now. I did look up time zones and you were something to midnight this morning, unless the Apple times are as accurate as their maps. It's the slant of the planet that does it. Mark my words! They said it would happen. Someone should DO something about it.

I also forgot onions and garlic and I may leave out the bacon because I am too lazy.

05-17-2013, 03:56 AM
Hi Everyone:wave:

Let's see it is 3:30AM here in OHIO. Yep I'm awake since 2:30AM.

I worked at the museum store last evening - - - a pattern is developing. The young lady who is a paid staffer gives you a task to do such as unpack or tag merchandise with the bar coded price labels. I ask questions to make sure I'm putting the right labels on the right merchandice. She leaves to go home around 5pm. Then another paid staffer comes in. We continue the process then around 7pm the store manager comes in and you find out that everything you have done since you got there is ALL WRONG. Then she is mad.

Since I don't print out the labels I can only use what is given to me. Last night it was pricing these handmade paper flowers that come as Hair pins, with pin backs as dress pins or long stems to stand in a vase. You have large or small flowers in each catagory.

By the end of the night the staffer I love to work with and I were nearly crazy. As the person before me had labeled flowers too.

I told her a couple of weeks ago that I was not feeling good about the communication on doing tasks and she is seeing it firsthand. Having said this I don't think this is news to those who have been there for a long time.

You know in my nursing profession you have to make sure you are correct in dong things. There are no mistakes as it could cost a life so you are very sure of what you are doing. Granted this is not the same situation but on the other hand look at the amount of time spent redoing things.

We were flower crazy when we left last night.

Well today is another day.....

I've experimented with the Dylusions Spray Inks and have made about 40 cardstock pages for journaling. Got some really pretty pages.

I bought a new watercolor book by Shirley Trevena this week. LOVE IT. I'm going to buy a couple sheets of watercolor paper today. Ready to paint BIG and LOOSE.

Started an online Writing Course in the basics as refresher through Coursera and the end of May will be doing an online Art Course for 7 weeks.

JJ ---Sorry about the car. Just makes you sick I know. Glad the other person left a note.

Darla---Hope you get to go to the Art Fair this weekend.

Ellen---I just had my husband back up onto other disks all our pictures. I worry about losing them too and intend to start printing them out to put in albums. We have tons put there are all digital.

Doris---I love watching the Bravo TV show on the guys in real estate in NYC. Some really high end things they show. I have never been to NYC and someday I'm gonna go. I want to visit a store called the INKPAD. Hope you are feeling well.

Bill--Ms. Ferral looks really well taken care of and really happy. She LOVE YOU

Wishing everyone else a Great Weekend

Wish I could say I was sleepy. NOT

05-17-2013, 04:21 AM
Why not do an ipad video and post it on Youtube Annie?

Hi Anita, sounds frustrating

05-17-2013, 04:39 AM
Hi everyone:wave:
still working my way through holiday pics ...... reliving it as well
We are already talking about 'next time'.....will definitely include a stop-over on the way back. Working out a way we can include Ormskirk as well......;)

Went back to the travel agent today to tell her all about our trip and about the airlines we travelled on (Etihad and Virgin Australia), both good airlines, plenty of leg room and good meals. Alas, not plenty of sleep, but that wasn't their fault lol
Also paid for the accommodation of our next trip - to the Cook Islands - rather different to the one we've just returned from! and only 4 hours flying time  Less than 7 weeks to go....
We were last there 30 years ago!

Doug, Faulty Towers should be fun!

JJ, first day out with our new car someone hit it in the carpark.....didn't leave any contact details either.

Bill, Ms Feral is beautiful, she looks like a larger version of Alfalfa.

Annie the only burning done here is with the inside fire! We are in for a wet (and cold) weekend....

Glad you are feeling better Doris.

Hi Anita, the writing course sounds interesting.

Can anyone tell me, please, is there a way of reducing the size of the video clips I took with the camera? or embedding them? I want to send some in emails and they are taking forever to load.....I suppose I could look at the camera book instructions lol

ps: Doug, meant to tell you, in my wakeful state coming home on the plane, I was pleased to find a series of 'Put Colour in YOur Life' programmes, watched 7 of them!

05-17-2013, 05:47 AM
Working out a way we can include Ormskirk as well......
Woohoo, looking forward to that!

Yes CIYL is a great series, I watch a new episode every Sunday morning in the UK.

Videos? Easiest way is to upload them to Youtube, make them private and just include the link in your friend's email.

Happy FRIDAY all!

It's partly cloudy/partly sunny this morning with a pleasant breeze. They are calling for a nice day; tomorrow and Sunday we have a 20% chance of a shower.

I've still not decided for sure if I want to take the girls to the art fair or not. Jen is working and so is Larry and it'd be me alone with all three girls. My lower back was killing me yesterday and by the time I went home from work I wanted to cry and of course when I got home Klaira wanted me to hold her.Anyway, it feels better today.;)

I really need to find time to get out in my perennial garden; maybe this weekend but I don't want to hurt my back anymore so will have to take it easy and careful.

Larry put the tomatoes and marigolds up so that the chipmunk cannot eat them. The tips were nipped off and he still needs to put out the live trap. Hoping we catch him this weekend.

I hope you all have a GREAT friday and weekend coming up. For some of you it's already here.

G'DAY!

Good Day All,
A beautiful morning and Iíll work in the garden until we head for K-Mart to pick up a new mixer. Not the expensive Kitchen Aid, just a $39.00 special that will do the trick. It has a bread hook.

Annie, your meals sound delicious. Glad Roger got an offer. At least he knows heís wanted.

Doug, sounds like a long shower. I like your boat photo yesterday. Itís my kind of subject. Maybe Iíll give it a go.

Doris, Iíd like to know the name of the store either way. They canít compete with that attitude. Will you be canning your own grown vegs?

Anita, I admire the way you keep yourself busy. The online courses are a good mind exercise, too.

Lulu, sounds like your trip was perfect. My wife canít sleep on planes, but I have little trouble.

Darla, hope you catch the chipmunks. Bait the trap with peanut butter.
Iíd take care not to injure your back again with the trip coming up. Go to the art fair next year. Iíll meet you there.

Janet heard her favorite and last living uncle died yesterday. So, we may be making a trip to Owen Sound, Ontario. Her decision.

Time for a little brekky and then off to the garden.

Hi to All

Just popping in to say hello from a beautiful sunny and warm day here in Scotland

We had a meeting with Lesleys Urology Surgeon this morning, the bad news is that the kidney cancer she has been diagnosed with is a complicated one requiring difficult surgery, she has been referred to the best Surgeon in Scotland at the major cancer centre in Glasgow...The Beatson West Of Scotland Cancer Centre...all very stressful! but we will fight through this!

05-17-2013, 10:00 AM
Thanks for checking in Henry. Our prayers and best hopes go with Lesley and her upcoming operation.

05-17-2013, 11:01 AM
Good Morning all,
It is almost 11:00 a.m. here in pleasantly comfortable Oakwood. We had a very heavy fog in the area this morning...schools on delayed opening because it was so thick it wouldn't have been safe for the buses carrying the kids, a 20-car pile up on the Interstate Hghwy north of us caused by 0 visibility. I love the look of fog, but I wasn't out driving in it.

Finished my Sunset painting (and discovered the reference photo in the RIL was of a Moonrise ) which I've posted in The Gallery. The link is in my signature line if you'd like to see a larger version. :D

Henry, I'm glad Lesley is going to be seeing the absolutely best surgeon in Scotland for her surgery. White light, healing vibes, and best wishes for success with her treatments. :grouphug: to both you you.

Doris, What a shame you are having such a hassle getting the items you need for canning. I used to do that when we were first married...learned how from my Mom who canned tomatoes and fruit my Dad grew in his garden each year. Now I take the easy route and freeze things when they are in season to use when they aren't. Hope you can get the proper things you need before the food is ready to be canned.

Bill, Loved the photos you had in the Wash yesterday. Beautiful cat and beautiful flower. :D

Annie, on Roger deciding four hours a day on the road wasn't a really good idea. Must have been a salve on his bruised ego though to know he could have had the job if he wanted. Your dinner sounds delicious.

Anita, How frustrating that the people who are in charge don't coordinate things before having volunteers spend hours working on something like that. This weekend there are a couple of art shows you might find interesting: WOWS is at the Town & Country Gallery and Tri-Art is at the High Street Gallery from 1:00 p.m ó 5:00 p.m.

 to all who were here before me and to those still on their way.

Nowifi so Kinle in use........weather fine and breezy in Ireland.

Henry and Lesley our thoughts with you.

05-17-2013, 11:38 AM
Good Morning all.
getting up at 330am makes for a LOOOONG day! Chasing cadets in this heat and humidity is exhausting!

I wish we had photos you could smell (sometimes). Every southern magnolia tree is in full bloom and it smells of a lemon paradise here.

Have a good day everyone.

Back from harrowing the garden. Itís all ready for planting.

Henry, we join your fight in our thoughts. Glad you have a great surgeon.

Sylvia, love the painting.

Geoff, enjoy Ireland.

05-17-2013, 12:33 PM
Henry ((Lesley)) All my love and prayers

Bill - the store I wll never buy from again is Lowe's. They do not have any retail locations in NYC, which is why I ordered online. At one point they said 'Take it back to the store for a refund." The HD did not have any canning supplies at all, nor did Bed, Bath &... I even checked Amazon but the shipping $$ was deadly.

I am not planning to preserve what few pants and flowers I grow on my terrace, but I am a member of a CSA - Community Supported Agriculture - and the farmer often offers extra half-bushels -- a bushel is too much -- [this is still a small city kitchen] of some crops.

Laundry time. yuch. I would so gladly trade my dishwasher for a washing machine, but we are not allowed to have them in this co-op.

05-17-2013, 12:36 PM
Here's hoping I can get a post typed without incident.

Doris in my post yesterday I was going to recommend Lehman's to order your canning supplies. They have everything for "old fashioned" everything. I mean that in the best possible way -- canning, baking -- they have cast iron bread pans Gail -- heirloom seeds, even washboards and wash tubs! I ordered my bayberry candles from them and they came promptly and so beautifully packed I could have cried. There was even a note inside that said "Personally packed by" and the person's name. There was also a note saying if there was anything wrong they would take it back.

((((Henry & Lesley))))) Sending healing vibes and best wishes for the surgery and recovery. :crossfingers: and toes as well.

Anita that is so frustrating. I used to run across that all the time in my temp jobs. I'd ask questions, they'd give me an answer and some hours later they'd changed their minds or someone higher up had said that was all wrong. I was kind of amazed that any of those businesses ran at all.

Hi Carolynn.  Glad to "see" you in the wash yesterday.

Darla take care of your back! Have you ever tried one of those peel and stick pads like ThermaCare or Salon Pas, or Icy Hot? That would give you some relief.

Bill loved your magnolia and Ms. Feral looks fat and sassy.

Annie could you record your birds with your cell phone and post a bit here? Love to hear that. Glad Roger got an offer. Fours travel time? People do that here sometimes just to get 10 miles.  Really that's not funny. But it's true.

(((((JJ)))))) At least they left you a note. Legally they're supposed to do that here. Ha, ha. Had a smashed tail light and head light. No joy on that score.

Doug enjoy your theatre tonight. I used to love watching Fawlty Towers.

Waited two days for the handyman. Yesterday I saw him and asked what was up. I finally gave him my cell phone number asked him to please call me if he wasn't going to make it, so I don't have to sit around my apartment for days on end. He said he'll be here on Monday now. We'll see.

On a great note -- jewelry class starts again today, so ---- I must away to get organized!

  to all and HAWLTAIN

05-17-2013, 01:52 PM
Hello Again from OHIO:wave:

1:30pm here and morning errands ran. Dropped off our little dog Ms. Tilly to get groomed. I talked to our vets office a couple of weeks ago on the procedures when the time comes if we have to put her to sleep. I knew I needed to know because I won't be able to ask questions at that time.

She has congestive heart failure and is on meds now but is worse. So we give additional Lasix when I notice increased weight gain and trouble breathing. She looked so pretty all groomed up with her little doggie scarf around her neck.

Getting around our little town now is a massive undertaking. The main street in the historic district is being dug up to replace 100 yo water/sewer pipes. This is a massive undertaking. It is affecting all the local little shops, eateries, etc.

This morning after dropping off Ms. Tilly I went for the coffee run. Didn't realize until right before my coffee shop that they had dug a huge hole in the sidewalk. I told the workmen "Curses foiled again" . Had to walk back and then come at it from behind and they still had to help me get in. LOL

Kay - I'll bet you are excited for your class to start up again.

Henry - Saying a prayer for Leslie & You too. Hoping that the Dr.s can figure something out.

Char/Gail ---bet you guys are having fun together

Lulu - Yes I just started the class this week but I really think I will enjoy it. Check out Coursera.com you will find lots of interesting classes.

Bill - I've never been one to get BORED. I'm trying out lots of things now that I am interested in. Also over the summer I've got a lot of inside home things to be done. Looking at some paint colors now and hoping to paint the living room, hallway, kitchen/dinning area and my bedroom this summer.

Darla - we're setting out tomato plants this weekend. I still don't have any flowers yet.

As far as the museum volunteering goes I've been around the work world long enough to know that this would not be news to them. I think every organization is aware of their "issues". I don't believe in burning bridges or making enemies. Also it looks good on my resume to have a volunteering item and the museum is highly well thought of by many companies in the area.

Anyway it shows that I can do something. LOL

Well lunch break is over so back to my activities --all this stuff just does not get done by itself. LOL

05-17-2013, 01:58 PM
Awesome flowers, Caryl! Love the pics...looks like you're sneaking up on it in the first one...the second one should have a "Whew!" caption. :P

05-17-2013, 02:44 PM
I don't know if I mentioned how good my "Old Girl Scouts" reunion went but it was better than I could have imagined  Found one of the "girl" lives just down the freeway from me and does part time work at the Crocker Museum  who knew!

It was so good to see more of the girls, we even got to laugh (oh BOY did we laugh) at things that was upsetting in the day. One drove down from Oregon! Now I am hoping to go to our 50th High School reunion in September, I (and others) was not planning to go as didn't think there would be anyone else I knew.

So a good day and GREAT food. (overstuffed icon needed here)

05-17-2013, 04:19 PM
Sun finally came up, just in time for more storms to blow in from the West. Am feeling a little better today now that I am on the right antibiotic to knock out the UTI.

Darla, I just went to Sams at lunch and bought two different sizes of Thermocare pads. They work wonders and sure help when your back muscles hurt.

I have scheduled my back injection for May 30th. Not looking forward to that, but it needs to be done. Hate having pins and needles running down my leg.

Henry, Put your faith in the doctors and let them do their magic. You take care of Lesley. We all have your back with white light.

Everyone, have a great weekend. My major project is to get the hot tub up and running, so I can get some relief.

05-17-2013, 04:28 PM

Thanks to all for your support, it is really appreciated. Lesley gets home tomorrow for a few days while the hospital sorts things out for the op.

05-17-2013, 05:09 PM
Best wishes to you both, Henry. :crossfingers:

05-17-2013, 05:09 PM
((((Thinking of and praying for you both Henry and Lesley)))).

05-17-2013, 05:10 PM
Good Afternoon!!!

Mrs. Robin is still sitting on her nest, Mr. Robin is still chasing every bird in sight away. They both have gotten used to me. I think it takes 16 days for eggs to hatch and she started sitting on them on the 8th.

Remember when I told you that the Canada Geese were standing on the roofs again advertising their ware, well babies are already here, soooo cute, right now no bigger than a man's hand and eating, eating, eating while mom and dad stand watch and poop all over my sidewalk:lol:

Did some gardening in the morning, then took branches and stuff to the recycle center and on the way home came across this road into the university, they are crab apple trees.

Henry, as always, thinking about you and Leslie and like the rest of us sending prayers, white light and my very best wishes.

Caryl, BEAUTIFUL, could you PLEASE take a few more photos from slightly different perspective and also one with a few leaves on it.

I have read everything but want to take the opportunity to sit outside and read for a bit and I am also a bit tired so will  to everyone and do that.

05-17-2013, 05:33 PM
Lovely photos Caryl, Uschi.

Back from the theatre. The performance of Fawlty Towers was a hoot! So well acted, especially Basil Fawlty and Manuel

05-17-2013, 05:48 PM
 Still sunny here, lovely day out there. Big grocery shopping this AM, and then my friend and I went to Dundurn Castle (http://www.hamilton.ca/CultureandRecreation/Arts_Culture_And_Museums/HamiltonCivicMuseums/Dundurn/Dundurn_Castle.htm) this afternoon. I hadn't been for 20 years, so was glad to see it again. Not a 'castle' by European standards, but what passes for one here! Try the virtual tour, it's pretty good.

Henry and Lesly, thinking of you  :grouphug:

That's interesting, Doris, glad it's been a good experience for you. I'm pretty sure I'm going to do it. Sorry about the jars, how frustrating! I still make the occasional batch of fruit jam, it's nice for gifts.

Sorry to hear about Janet's loss, Bill. Mrs Feral looks very healthy now, and your magnolias are lovely!

Gorgeous flowers, Caryl.....those are the southern magnolias? amazing!

Lovely photos, Uschi, that's quite an avenue of flowers. Isn't spring wonderful

Hope you all have had/are having a good day!

Hi everyone - rain today, but we have had a few days of spectacular weather. Everyone is just about over the cold - this one really stayed for a long time.

Nipper - nice to see you are feeling a bit better.

Hugs to Henry ad Lesley.

JJ - sorry to hear about your new car.

I have finally finished putting Tanglefoot around the house - the carpenter ants have been really bad this year - it's great to see them run up near the line and turn around.

My cousin has stopped putting her compost out as the bear(s) have totally trashed her compost heap. With nothing for them I hope they move along.

We have baby ducklings hatching every other day. Also put some eggs from a friend's duck under one of our sitting mums as she has no place for the babies until they get a bit bigger.

SIL forwarded me this very interesting article for all of us with digestive problems:

I look forward to their further research. Betty :cat:

Yes. The trees are evergreen and have lovely deep leathery leaves all year. I will get out this weekend and get more shots.

There are also some on my RIL account from last year.

Henry, pass on my thoughts and hugs!

Hi everyone... This is actually CHAR, signing in as Gail... I'm just popping in to say a quick "Hi"... We've had a full day and Gail is resting before dinner... Believe it or not, we painted... I finished a small 8x10 gallery wrap of calla lilies and Gail's is almost finished!

We plan to do a bit of running around tomorrow... there's a local farmers' market we want to visit and a new plant nursery.

Henry, my thoughts and prayers are with ((Lesley)) and you as you fight this fight... Your positive attitudes are inspirational and will only help...

I love all the photos in today's Wash! Caryl, I agree with Uschi about the need for MORE photos!!! :)

JJ, I'm so sorry about your car... and Annie, I'm happy about Roger's job offer (it's validating and good for the self confidence level)...

Anita, you have to keep a positive attitude, too, with everything you've got on your plate right now! ((()))

Bill and Janet, please accept my condolences on the loss of Janet's dear uncle... Owen Sound is one of my favourite cities.

I'd better sign off here, since this isn't my computer... :) Have a great evening everyone... I'll try to check in tomorrow sometime...

05-17-2013, 10:23 PM
(((Henry &Lesley))) prayers and good thoughts to you both. I'm glad she is going to such a prestigious hospital.

Bill condolences to Janet on her loss.

Larry is just heading to bed and I'm watching a little TV then following him.

Betty that article is VERY interesting. thank you for sharing.;)

I'll be back in the morning.
