very nice modeling of the figures ... could be a bit more separation/shadow between the elders sleeve and his weapon?
i like the comp, but am somewhat sorry their perch has such a dreadfully boring view ... seems the youth might agree with me about that ;)

I'm confused by the title. Are they shepherds or soldiers?? Nice work on the figures though...

so, I'm guessing the umbrella looks like a weapon and needs a bit more work. Thanks!!!

The way the composition is handled here is reminiscent of John Currin's "The Moved Over Lady"...
If you're looking for that type of effect, I think this is very good. Otherwise, I would tend to say that these shepherds may need some sheep and the sheep may need some hint of a meadow...
Very nice work!

Personally I like the open space. I saw the umbrella right away. I think the signature will play a big role in this piece, are you going to put one on?

I'd like to see a lovely spread out landscape below these figures. Their poses are great (and the umbrella is a nice touch) but it would be good to get a glimpse of what they are seeing. I think it's important to keep the original title.

I've been waiting for the push which sends him over the edge, perhaps the lad is scared but I'm sure he's thinking about it It is a great painting I like it.
