View Full Version : ***Daily Wash ANZAC DAY Thursday April 25 2013***
Well risking blue ears but will be worth it. lol
Just want to say hello from the desert!
We got up very early this morning to attend the Anzac Day memorial, a very moving affair, and when the last post was played I had a very big lump in my throat, not just for all the wasted lives, but because here we are on the other side of the world, and everywere, no matter where you are, we still remember them....
Bearing up well with the heat, in fact we are quite enjoying it!
Not so the temps when we went ot Oman at the wkend, got to mid 40C, felt I was just about to expire.
Having an amazing time, loving it all, and most of all being with the family.

Hi Lulu, glad you are withstanding the heat. I found your facebook page - can you take photos of the wonderful sights and people you are seeing?
Art class today, Ill suggest they try alansam's latest two sketches.
Dull with rain expected today.
I have taken lots of photos Doug, l will try to upload some of them to my fb blog. Not permissible to take photos of people without their permission, but I so wish my eyes had that capability to snap what I see!l have some from afar. It's a bit different to being in a tour group, where you can snap away and move off. What I'd really like to be able to do is take pics in the grocery store of all the Lulu branded things! lol and of all the unusual fruits and veges.

Hello Everyone:wave:
Lulu your trip sounds FABULOUS so glad that you got to do that
Well here I am up again at almost 4AM. Just took an Aleve and hopefully can get back to bed soon.
Today is my son Justin's 28th Birthday ---where does the time go
He is doing well at his USAF base assignment in N. Carolina. He will be going to Caryl's base in June for some training. That is in Alabama and I think he will be there for 6 weeks.
We are hoping to visit him in N. Carolina in Aug or early Sept.
I went to my art group last night. Only 4 of us but a fun group.
A full moon we had last night. I love seeing the full moons.
Tonight is my volunteer night at the museum from 3:30pm till 8:00 pm.
Well off to look around the web and then back to bed
Have a great day everyone
04-25-2013, 04:35 AM
Lulu - above 40?! I can barely deal with above 30!
Anita - is your son in the Air Force?
Morning everyone  Very scatter brained today, just went to the post office and forgot to bring the letter with me
04-25-2013, 04:37 AM
Mornin' each ........
Lulu I'm just getting re-acclimatised to the cold here and there you are talking 40 degrees ......... Tell me do you sweat or perspire? ..... ...
Haven't looked through my holiday photos yet ..... to tell you the truth I haven't done much of anything since we got back home.
Went to see the physio yesterday she was so pleased with my progress we got down to some real exercise ....... and boy I'm paying for it this morning .... my buttocks are killing me!!!!!!
OK I'm off, got a list of things to do from Chris so must get started as it looks like it will last all day....
04-25-2013, 05:03 AM
Lulu, sounds wonderful. Dry heat is more survivable than humid heat with preparation. AC, swimming pools...
Kev, as a lady, Lulu will glow.
Laura, one better, paid for our PO Box before Easter and got a letter of demand yesterday. I'm working on ignorance is a defence  as i have the receipt.
Better than husband travelling 20 k to Samford and arriving back an hour later. Forgot his wallet. Men should have handbags of some kind I've decided. They have wallets, phones, sundry notes and nowhere to keep them. My life is in my sac and I don't leave home without it. Sac that is.
Anita, full moon here again
Bo was easily in. Open front door and he set the spinnaker from the front step and slowly sailed in. Little missy Loki was no where to be found. After a suitable period of angst, she presented herself to the side door. She lives.
See you all tomorrow
04-25-2013, 05:15 AM
Taken me two hours to get a wifi signal, technology urghhhh!
Grey and drizzle, plans few may go to Ormskirk market, is it any good Doug??
04-25-2013, 05:29 AM
Good Day All,
What a coincidence that everyone has a full moon. :)
At least I can see it rather than clouds full of rain. Opps, just saw the radar and rain will be forthcoming.
Annie, I do like the idea of carrying everything in a bag, just wouldn't like the stares. :)
04-25-2013, 05:42 AM
It's all about the style Bill. Frills .... no. Satchel type thing? Why not? Just avoid loud floral prints.....
04-25-2013, 05:44 AM
I use a shopping bag and get ridiculed by Eileen!
04-25-2013, 07:15 AM
Good Morning everybody, cool and dull here in sunny Harrogate.
Hey Doug I noticed in you'r gallery 2 paintings of knaresborough, but not the classical view from the castle of the viaduct, how come you've not had a blast at it ?
04-25-2013, 07:30 AM
Back from class.
Alan, I have painted the viaduct a couple of times, once plein air with several wetcanvas members. See the Compendium sticky at the top of the forum and look for the Knaresborough Meet.
I use a cloth bag when I have my sketching gear and camera to carry, otherwise my life is in my wallet.
Not a bad market Geoff, it specialises in clothing. Problem is parking in the main car park is limited to 2 hours.
Bowling this afternoon in damp weather.
04-25-2013, 07:34 AM
Ġood morning! Lot's of sun shining here this morning... It's a welcome sight despite the cold 1C temperature, especially after the rain and sleet that pummelled us yesterday. There's a possibility of a thunderstorm later today.
My last Class of this workshop Session ended with so many lovely paintings. They were a terrific group willing to work their socks off! It's exciting to see all that talent emerge and grow... I'll be seeing many of them in future Intermediate classes. Now, I have three weeks off before the next Workshop begins.
Gym this morning, and then home again to get our tax information organized. I'll work the taxes tomorrow to get them e-filed. Our deadline isn't until April 30th, but I'd better do them now. I never worry much about them because we always get a tax refund, but the government is threatening to penalize all late filers. OR to set them up for audit!
Lulu, I'm enjoying your adventures and like Doug, would love to see whatever photos you're able to post!
Doug, how many Artists are you teaching these days?
Anita, I hate to tell you this, but time continues to speed up the older you get! It's all relative... :) Happy Birthday to your young man, Justin!
Laura... *nodding*... yup... I can empathize!
Kev, it's a *good* hurt, right???
Annie, Matt and a few of his friends carry "Messenger Bags"... It's something he started at school and just never put the bag away. As a Nurse, he deals with some amount of commentary anyway. My eldest Son also carries a satchel of sorts...
Shame on Eileen, Geoff! :p
Bill, that darned moon was so bright last night, it seemed like street lights were brightening up our bedroom... I could have read "by the light of the silvery moon"...
Hi Alan and all yet to come! I hope everyone has the best possible day! :grouphug:
04-25-2013, 07:44 AM
 Good day from sunny Ontario! We are enjoying another day which looks like Spring, but feels a bit frosty. I'm off to the gallery this morning, then lunch with a great friend. Will see if I last long enough to dance tonight.
Sounds wonderful, Lulu! ......apart from the heat, that is!
Hi Andrew, Geoff, Doug, Anita (hope you got some sleep), Laura, Kev, Annie, Bill, Alan!
Char, you will feel like you are let out of school :) hope you can get to your own painting now.
Thinking of everyone under the weather, hope it is a better day for you  :grouphug:

I have a hefty "to do" list today because everything has to be ready to leave first thing in the morning including supplies for the cats so my son can watch them for the weekend. I have a couple of errands to run as well including a trip to Michaels for my sister. She needs some tiny sable brushes and they have a coupon for 40% off your whole purchase of brushes today.
Nice to read good news in the wash to start the day. Lots of hugs going out to those not feeling well who haven't posted.
It's mostly sunny so far today but below freezing with a heavy frost. The moon was very bright last night.
Not much else interesting to tell so I'll get started on my day. Have a great one.
04-25-2013, 08:28 AM
It was a beautiful sunny day here, all day, and not too hot. I got all my washing done.
Lulu, it warms my heart to read your joy and happiness..
How did art class go Doug. I bet Alan's paintings went down a treat..
Anita, so good to read you had fun in art class. I am looking for one close to me at present, hopefully on perspective. I find that challenging. Happy Birthday to Justin.
Kev, so glad you are still on the mend...
Better than husband travelling 20 k to Samford and arriving back an hour later. Forgot his wallet. Men should have handbags of some kind I've decided. They have wallets, phones, sundry notes and nowhere to keep them. I like the Scotchmans idea, a sporran!!
Geoff, I join the wifi grumps sometimes. The wifi on my ultrabook keeps going in and out. Most annoying..
Hya Bill. Give Ms Feral pats from me.. Men wear satchels..
Enjoy your time off Char.. Spring gardening maybe?
Lynn, do have fun at the dance, and say hi to everybody for me..
Ellen, don't forget to take some time for you...
04-25-2013, 08:43 AM
It was sunny on my way into work this morning and clear enough to see that brilliant moon last night...but clouds have moved in and we are expecting rain showers possibly mixed with snow showers.
Larry picked up some free wood last evening that some crew was cutting up along the edge of the road. It won't be long and we'll have a fire in our firepit. S'mores are in our near future. YUM.
He's training someone at work and is still working until 5pm. But they've cut back to just their 8 hours a day and still working weekends. He works two then has one off. He's working this weekend.
Last night was quiet but tonight we have the girls again so a little noise is expected.
Hi there Straydragon;enjoy your day.
(((KEV))) sore muscles can give one a sense of satisfaction but oh ouch!
Hello Laura, have a great day.
Doug, I hope it won't be too wet for your bowls this afternoon.
Geoff, I hope you had fun at the market.
Annie, men purses/sachels are a common thing around here.
Char, a little break from your classes will re-charge your batteries. I'm glad you enjoy teaching so much. It's rewarding to see how well your students have taken what you've taught and put it into their work.
Ellen, Have a GREAT workshop! That is too bad about your sheet of dots.
Hello there Lynn, enjoy your day.
JJ, I hope you can find an art class on perspective; it's always been a bit difficult for me too.
LuLu, I'm SO GLAD you are enjoying this time with your family...now THAT is HOT!
ANita, Happy Birthday to Justin; yes where does the time go? Un-real that our kids are that age already.
Sending ((())) to all in need.:grouphug:
The East Lansing Art festival is coming up in May and we usually go. Last year it was 90F and SO HOT! I hope this year it'll not be as hot. We always go and it's always a nice time with the girls.
This weekend is supposed to be nice at least on SAturday. I would like to get out and clean up some of my flower beds but I also have to clean my house too so I'll have to see if I have enough time to do it all. I'd rather be painting...;)
I hope you all have a great day!
04-25-2013, 09:24 AM
Well, the bowls was rained off, no-one turned up.
Yes Alan's sketches always go down well. We'll have to invite him along to do a demo.
04-25-2013, 09:32 AM
Good Day Washers !
Beautiful blue skies although still a bit chilly. Yesterday was miserable with too much rain with a little snow mixed in. Seasonal warm weather is on its way !!!
Darla, gardening takes priority over house cleaning, anytime. :) You can clean the house on cool or rainy days or do one room at a time during the week. Now that the kids have sold their house are they house hunting in a certain area or looking for a certain piece of property or style of house?
I do hope they find something soon so there is no need to move in with you and Larry or double move all their furniture and belongings.
Char, do all your classes finish for the summer by the end of June? Did you
Lulu, wonderful to see you here today. so glad that you are having such a wonderful time. Looking forward to your photos too.
Uschi, can we see a pic of your water lily, please !
The sun is shining which means I want to get outdoors so need to get dressed and head into town for a couple of things. by the time I get back it should be warm enough to work in the garden.
 to all I have missed..... BBL

I have decided what is wrong with 13 year old boys, they are not completed, sort of like a larvel stage.
"Manbags"? never liked that name, satchel, or messenger bags, they do carry briefcases, better than asking wife "could you put this in your bag?" do that a few times and that should make that easier.
School STAR testing still on, we will have the sprouts for lunch.
Must get back to clearing out detritius, to get ready for the "Old Scouts Reunion" at our house in May
* Oh I have heard "MERSE" for man bags that is just wrong on so many levels!
04-25-2013, 10:54 AM
I have decided what is wrong with 13 year old boys, they are not completed, sort of like a larvel stage.

04-25-2013, 11:21 AM
Sun shining here now, rain stopped in Ormskirk which has a decebt market and a good selection of charity shops......oh and a good art materials shop not cheap but good selection, so I bought a couple of tubes of acrylic.
04-25-2013, 12:10 PM
Been cloudy and overcast and windy here. They said it would rain last night. But if it rained it either didn't reach the ground or rained in some other neighborhood. The cooler weather has let my roses unfurl slowly instead of popping open and falling off. Keep forgetting to photograph them.
Yesterday was 30% off day at Blick, so I walked up there and back (killing two birds with one stone). Needed rubber cement and . . . well I couldn't come away with just that could I? All told only spent $15 with discount and they had a spin the wheel for a free gift as you walk in. I won a mini canvas. :D
Successfully avoided doing laundry. Now I really have to do it as I am just out of clean clothes and what alls.
Char you would be so proud of me. I did dishes last night. Didn't get them all done -- ran out of room in the dish drainer thingy. I too hope you get some time to paint for yourself now. Your students are so lucky.
I keep forgetting to mention -- There is an arts camp in Idyllwild, California every summer and every summer Nick Simmons teaches there. I get the email every year and I don't do anything about it, and of course now it would be rather difficult with Esme.
Uschi - yes please can we see your waterlily? I have one of a pic I took sketched out and staring at me. I still haven't done anything with it.
Annie I am the wrong person to ask as I tend to hang out with actors and they all have satchels of some sort, me included. What ever happened to the man-purses from the 80's? Anyone remember those?
Lulu glad you are having such a wonderful time, although I think you have a tendency to bring the wonderful with you. :D
Lynn don't over do, but I hope you have energy to dance tonight.
Judy
Darla -- garden and paint! Everything else can wait a sec.
Hope you got more sleep Anita. Happy Birthday to Justin.
Laura sounds like something I would do. Once I got all the way to a singing audition and realized I'd forgotten my music. Had to drive all the way home and back.
Kev hope the soreness eases. Glad you are feeling better though and  for the good report from your physiotherapist.
  to all and HAWLTAIN
04-25-2013, 12:45 PM
Hi to All
My thoughts are with the brave Australian and New Zealand soldiers who fell in WW2, of which there were many
JJ the is no such thing as a "Scotchman" I'm sure you mean a Scotsman  a Sporran was not really used for carrying items , more for holding things down
They have now invented a bar stool for Scotsmen in kilts, very novel
I would never use a "Manbag"
04-25-2013, 01:02 PM
Should that have a Butt icon?

Hi everyone, sea mist just cleared, 12 deg and sunny, SW 3 knoTs, sea calm.
Waken up at dawn this morning by dawn chorus of black backed gulls, herring gulls and fog horns. The gulls are nesting on our roof.
Strange last night low layer of sea mist lit by the full moon, it was like one of those strange Scifi films. Wish I could paint like Turner, might have had a bash.
Hats off to those brave men who fought and fell all those years ago.
I do not have a man bag.
Dinner ready, been told to put this down!
All you men aare such wimps lol John alway wears a shoulder bag when travelling. On our very first tour out of New Zealnd our leader took all the men shopping and MADE them buy a bag each!
Kev as long as the heat doesnt make me EXPIRE I don't mind what you call it lol
04-25-2013, 02:14 PM
Lovely lunch with a dear friend, there's nothing like having a non-stop conversation with a truly compatible person! And she drove me home with a stop at the grocery store, so I should be able to make it to dancing, Kay :)
Sounds like you have the same approach to dishes as I do, I need a double size drain tray, but then there'd be hardly any room on the counter!
Great comment, Judy, I agree, 13yr old boys are different creatures. I got mine back about 5 years later and we could actually have a conversation. Now he is a good friend.
Hi Darla, JJ, Nipper, Gail, Ellen!
04-25-2013, 02:32 PM
OH ELLEN ELLEN ELLEN. We don't get the Michaels flier and I rarely go up to the one we have. I have been going up using my cell phone 40% off whenever I have been up to do other things. Well, thanks for the heads up on the 40% off brush purchase. 13 New Neptune Brushes Just had to follow me home today! LOL!
I also picked up a baseball display for all those ATC cards my lovely WC friends made for me.
Then I went to the antique store with the boy and we discussed some of the bits and bobs and history. I also found a great wwii leather attache case for carrying my plein air things :D
Lulu - I'm looking forward to 40'C heat! It's the humidity here I can do without.
Anita- I'm really bummed out that I'm not going to be here to pamper Justin! NUTS! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO HIM!
my 13 year old is wonderful. Oh sure, he has his days, but you're right, they don't quite know what to do with themselves, especially their emotions. It doesn't help that they are all legs, arms, feet and hands at this age. LOL!!
Henry, that is a riot!!
OK off to get house chores done. :) Behave or go Paint!
04-25-2013, 02:35 PM
LOL at the chair for Scottsmen, Henry! Reminds me of a wooden nut bowl, which is, um.... ahem.... hmmmmmm oh nevermind!!
Its a beautiful day in the neighborhood today!! Sunny, high of 65. I have the day off! I need to finish my painting before my 3 year old grandson and his mommy come over, then we are off to the park to play on the playground equipment, and throw rocks and sticks in the lake... fun times!
04-25-2013, 05:27 PM
[QUOTE=Lulu]All you men aare such wimps lol John alway wears a shoulder bag when travelling. /QUOTE]
John is a brave man, or he just does what he's told.
I've been watching all of the "Foyle's War" series. All the men, including my Dad,
fought bravely for freedom. The hunger for power will always exist.
Salmon, rutabega and mashed with a light salad for dinner.
04-25-2013, 09:18 PM
Larry would carry a camera bag or shopping bag but not a man bag...he however has been known to hold my purse while I'm shopping.:lol: He quite often stands with other men who are also holding their wives bags!
LOL at the seat for kilt wearers.:D
Bill your meal sounded yummy. I LOVE salmon AND rutabaga!
Watching the DEtroit Redwings at the moment; just finished watching American Idol. The Redwings are winning so far. Keeping my :crossfingers: that they can hold the lead.
I've gone over our itinerary with Larry for our trip. I have everything organized and printed out. We will know just what we are doing and when. I've booked everything myself; even a day trip from London to Paris.:smug: Kaitlyn and Kelsea are going to teach us a few French words (they take it as a class in school) to help us out when we are there.;) We are starting to get excited..it's one month from this Sunday. We are gathering things to pack and will be ready early.
The girls were here but Jen picked them up an hour ago. I helped proofread an assignment that Kaitlyn had done. A paper due tomorrow. The girls sure are being consistant in doing their homework and on time.
The afternoon turned out beautiful, sunny but windy and a bit cool. A big warm up is due this weekend and into next week.
Night everyone! (Morning and/or afternoon for some)
04-25-2013, 09:21 PM
JJ the is no such thing as a "Scotchman" I'm sure you mean a Scotsman  a Sporran was not really used for carrying items , more for holding things down  Oh I am sorry Henry. I got the term Scotchman from the novel I am reading.
04-25-2013, 09:28 PM
Quick visit - Mum hasn't been well the last couple of days - spent the time in bed but managed to get her up and downstairs on Wednesday....she was a lot better today (thurs) so I got to go out and visit a friend of mine.
Unfortunately Tuesday when she took ill was the day she was due for her appt re her shoulder so had to cancel it....next one is June so another month of pain....am not happy - all this could have been sorted if they hadn't messed up the flipping operation.
Nothing much else happening - so will wave to everyone  - send white light to those who need it and lots of hugs to everyone - will try and nip in over the weekend.
