View Full Version : Blue Butterfly

Back to Home Goods! Many weeks ago, I spotted this plate on one of their displays, just as you walked in the door. Instant inspiration! They must have seen me coming. I knew I had to put this in a still life with orange slices. I didn't realize at the time, just how time consuming that blue butterfly would be. I just fell in love with the complimentary colors. So, it's finished and going into a show on Wednesday.
This is an 11 X 14 painting on La Carte. I used various pastels, but a lot of pencil work went into the butterfly, as well as the Hydrangeas. C & C always welcome.

Your painting is gorgeous! Now would you pass me one of those orange slices  They look so juicy.
Seriously, you did a beautiful job on the butterfly!

BEAUTIFUL work Karen, as always. Like I said on your website, those orange slices have my mouth watering. As for the plate? Wow, between that and the chicken bowl, you've gone detail crazy! But ALL good!!
Wo Karen: This is really a fine pastel still life. Good luck on your show. A sure winner here.

Did you buy the plate? Home Goods is one of my wife's favorite stores, and her reaction to your painting was WOW! I also love the painting; the butterfly is beyond words and the orange slices made me hungry. Oh yea, and then there are the flowers. Colors, values! Total WOW!

Best of luck in the show!

Thank you, Grinner!
Troutbum, thank you! I did buy the plate at Home Goods. I also bought the ceramic chicken and chicken bowl in the other posted painting, "Which Came First?", at Home Goods. Most people go there to decorate their homes. I roam the aisles looking for inspiration for paintings.

OK you fooled me for sure! I scrolled down to see the painting you made of this stunning reference !!!!!!!!
Amazingly beautiful and skilful job, and those slices so juicy...

I love all of the detail you put into the butterfly and flowers but I think you really knocked it out of the ball park on the orange slices. They look very moist and delicious. Best of luck on the show, I am sure you will do great. Bob

I came back to marvel at this work. Not only the butterfly detail and delectable orange slices (you ARE the Orange Queen), but hydrangeas as well? The most petaled flower in the universe? What patience!
I just sent you an email. Be sure you have violins sobbing in the background.

This is gorgeous, Karen. Don't know how I missed it. Too much time at the office, I guess. I also don't know how you have the patience to do all of the masterful detail work.
I couldn't make the opening of the show but I'll be there next week and I can admire this in person!

Thanks, Randy! I was happy to have the time to admire your work in the show. That's why I like to volunteer on hanging day. I get to see the "goodies" before the crowds arrive. Congrats!
