still lifes are not the norm for me but i thought i would contribute something to this new forum anyway.
this is a still life of buoys done in oil pastel approx 9 x 13. a lot got cut off by the scanner but i just wasn't up to patching it together.
as always, any comments, critque, etc. is welcome!!!

looking back on my post i realize the scan really messed up the picture. hopefully you can tell where the distortion is. the real image is much smoother and cleaner. thanks - kate

Hi G. , Is it possible to photograph it and then scan the photo? That way we'd be able to see the full composition.

no camera, sorry. really all that's missing is about 1 inch or so on every side. it's only a more of the brown background and a little bit of a table on the bottem.
really looking for any comments on this one

ok--I'll try. Composition is interesting with the center of interest being in the area of the knot. I think that area could use a little more punch--more contrast.

The textures of the rope and weathered bouys are well painted. I think more value contrast would emphasize this and also give them more dimension.

Can't really see any shadows in the posted image. If they are non-existent in the painting, I think adding them would make for a much more interesting piece.

Interesting subject matter. Needs more contrast to really command attention from the viewer. Hope that helps. Phyl

I like your composition and agree that some value contrast would add to the piece.
Good subject matter.
