View Full Version : ****Daily Wash Saturday April 13 2013 ****
Happy Saturday everyone:wave:
Another lovely day here, just about to get showered and ready to go to friends to watch the rugby and have dinner.
While the excitement builds as we pack to go away, this day also has very sad memories for us, 3 years ago my niece's son was accidentally killed, aged 21 years.
I'm not sure about time healing, but it does ease the pain, it allows your body, mind and heart to accomodate the loss and find new ways of coping.
Enjoy your day, and tell your loved ones that you love them!
Regarding anti-virus software, what do others use?
04-13-2013, 02:32 AM
((((((((Lulu and family))))))))))))
I am just about to go to bed, been a long day, picked up the kids, took them to Wally.....Walmart, got snacks and frozen pizza, they played "Apples to Apples" seemed to have a good time lots of laughter there.
I need sleep, nighty night, sleep tight.
04-13-2013, 02:33 AM
Good morning all, it's a lovely sunny morning here 4C and just a few clouds on the western horizon. Rain is expected to spread from the south west this afternoon.
Hi Lulu, I use AVG Free version as anti-virus, but make sure I don't click on any suspicious links and especially viral emails. So far so good :crossfingers:
The Avast Free Antivirus has had good reports. Here's a review. (http://www.pcpro.co.uk/features/379993/best-free-antivirus-for-2013)
04-13-2013, 03:18 AM
Hi Lulu - I have Norton AV on my computer, which detects viruses (or is that virusi?) As I mentioned, I am also subscribed to Carbonite.com so I am automatically backed up regularly and therefore also dont need to worry about some stray part of my machine failing and losing my stuff.
Guess why I signed up for Carbonite? Hint: barn doors. . .
Still not up to par, I am going back to bed now.
04-13-2013, 03:39 AM
Good evening Lulu, Judy,Doug and Doris and all to follow.
I woke in the middle of the night to pelting rain which continued all day, though now at dusk it seems to be clearing We've both had a very unproductive but very laid back day. Something we both needed.
04-13-2013, 03:44 AM
Fairly decent sleep as have
most been this holiday.....perhaps I ought to live in caravan full time,by myself says Eileen!
My computer 'geek' usually strips Norton and Kaspersky AV programmes out of new laptops as he reckons they fight with other programmes, which was certainly my experience as a one-time long term Norton user.
He goes for AVG free on clients machines and also Microsoft Security which are the two I now run.....Used to be worried about malware via adverts etc but AVG seems to pick it up, before that it was AdAware every week.
Well after some heavy rain during the night which has taken the snow off the facing Eilan Hills we now have hazy sunshine which bodes well for rhe Melrose 7's starting in a couple of hours. So Scotch Eggs and Cherry Cola packed ready for a long day, final normally starts about 7pm.
04-13-2013, 04:02 AM
Well, the decision is made - we're off for a day in the Lakes while the weather is so nice.
Be back later.
Hi again everyone,
just in from a delicious dinner with friends, and watched some good rugby too.
My current anti-virus software is Microsoft Security, and it does have good reviews too. But obviously it wasn't enough? Have had Nortons in the past and never ever had the problems that others have had.
Have had good reports of Kaspersky too.
Will think about it and add another backup one after we return. Is there any known conflict between AVG and Microsoft Security?
Carbonite looks good for automatic backing up too Doris.
I never click on suspicious links or viral emails either.
Better get to bed and fill the sleep bank in preparation for deprivation!!

Just rushing out the door to work but wanted to tell Lulu that I have used Avast for years and loved it but it started giving me troubles not being compatible with all programs. I had Windows security as well and the two fighting for control caused crashes. Don't put them both on. I had to get rid of Avast.
Well, off to Reykjavik tomorrow after spending all day in the Toronto Airport. to my Toronto Washerfriends. Will end our trip in NYC and I hope to see the AWS exhibit if that works out. We are getting excited.
We are more or less prepared for the weather and have a few tours arranged, but mostly on our own. It is quite warm in Coral Gables now and the rainy season seems to have begun.
04-13-2013, 08:18 AM
The weather isn't motivating, gray, more rain and not exactly warm.
To top it up, no table tennis:crying: so I guess housework is in order because if it were sunny and warm I'd be working in the garden.
I watched a Canadian TV program called The Fifth Estate where they mentioned that infection in hospitals is 4th reason for deaths in hospitals, well, in Canada anyway. I guess there is a very good reason why they shoosh us out so quickly:D
Karl, I don't live in Toronto, but it is near enough to wave to you. Have a wonderful holiday!!!!!
My son put Avast on my computer and it caught a virus not too long ago that many others didn't catch.
Nice outing Doug, ENJOY!!
Doris, sorry you still aren't feeling well.
 to Lulu, Geoff, Judy, Ellen, Annie and all yet to come!! :grouphug: to those of you not feeling well and good wishes for improvement!!

I had a fun day, it was the 39th Worldwide Sketchcrawl today..
Here is one of my sketches..
It rained heavily, and sadly, only 4 of us turned out. But, we had a ball. Coffee, food, and great conversation, along with sketching. What more could a girl want.
Char, no, I haven't given up on a Jeep. I am a bit worried though, about the expense of repairs.. Seeing as I am not buying a new vehicle, there are bound to be repairs somewhere down the track..
I have been given 6 Breeds to research now..:p In no particular order.........
I read the previous wash, just too tired to comment right now. sorry..

Good morning! It's dull and grey here, too, Uschi... we're expecting more rain. April showers... yadda, yadda, yadda... :)
My inner workings are still not functioning properly... And, Oh Happy Day... I've shared it with Ted.
We were planning to go to Carvapalooza (http://www.chathamdailynews.ca/2013/04/10/carvapalooza-attracts-international-participants), an International Chain Saw carving exhibition. The rain and other *stuff* will keep us home. Actually, I feel bad for the artists who've come such a long way to participate... their sculptures are really beautiful, especially considering how they're done!
I varnished a couple of finished pieces yesterday. I don't have any plans for today, but may try to paint on my iris.
((Lulu)) The sharp edges of pain do wear away over time...
I like Avast. It's now offered in two forms, either the antivirus software alone which is still free, or with lots of additional options for tighter security that will cost $$$ depending on the level.
I also use the firewall that came with Windows 7 and it seems to work nicely with Avast.
Hi Judy... I hope you slept well.
Doug, I tried AVG and preferred Avast, but can't remember why...
Hi Doris... those darned barn doors...
Hey Annie, laidback is a Martha Stewart good thing.
Geoff, Norton is one of those programmes that seems to have tendrils into everything on your hard drive. It's not easy to remove once it's embedded. Mmmmm... Scotch eggs!
Hi Ellen... I think that Microsoft Security is a good programme, so getting rid of Avast if it was conflicting was a good decision.
ALL day at the airport? That's just nasty, Karl! from 3 hours away...
Yah... I know I'd choose housework over any other possible activity, Uschi! :p
JJ, I'm also curious as to why you feel that you need a 4 wheel drive vehicle? Their more expensive to run fuel-wise... Your sketches are nice.
I hope that everyone has the very best possible day... be creative and happy...
04-13-2013, 09:22 AM
Well, we're home!
We did a hundred miles plus and found some interesting roads :) Just started to rain as we got back.
(((Char))) sorry you are not recovered yet REST!
Enjoy your trip Karl.

Hi to All
Fair weather today, mildish
Still no results from Lesley's hospital tests, that's now 5 nights she has been in!
Thought I would post an old photo of her and my sister Maggie, my wife Lesley is on the Right. All the girls seemed to have long straight hair back then.
My Brother Kenneth took a couple of shots of his Thai wife on their first wedding anniversary
Back to painting
04-13-2013, 10:05 AM
I'll be doing a lot of visiting here today because I really don't particularly like housework hence need lots of rests also called "procrastination".
Char, sorry the lurgies are still hanging on and poor Ted, his will be twice as bad as yours:evil:  . What a shame about the rain for the sculpters, I think they are absolutely amazing!!!!!!
Henry, poor Lesley :grouphug: It will be all worth it if they DO figure out what the problem is and how to fix it QUICKLY. The picture of her and your sister is lovely, your wife has a bit of an Audrey Hepburn look to her, very pretty, both of them!! As to your brother's wife, she sure is a BEAUTY!! Every time I see one of those petite, oriental females I wonder how they could possibly bear children, but they do:D and they keep looking young, the wife of one of our table tennis buddies is 60 and we were all shocked, doesn't look a day over 40. One of our guys looks 15, without a lie, and he too is close to 60:envy: :envy:
Doug, glad you had a niuce day!!! You must have had cabin fever to want to drive that far.
JJ, nice that you had a good time with your sketcher buddies!!! Good job doing them too!!
Back to work:rolleyes:
04-13-2013, 10:16 AM
Thanks Uschi, Audrey Hepburn , that will cheer Lesley up no end
Kenneth's wife has two young children from a previous relationship!

Good Day All,
Great to travel the Lake District on a whim, Doug. Any photos?
Geoff, a lot can be said for a different bed. You must feel more relaxed in the caravan.
((Char and Ted))
Karl, a great trip ahead. Hope you bring back good photos.
Henry, all beautiful ladies. Thinking of (((Leslie.)))
I see a peak of sun, the first in a long time. We receive four inches of rain this week and the flooding waters have started to recede.
I will be spray painting a big white X on trees that need to be removed next week by the tree removal service. All victims of the Chinese Green Ash Borer.
Janet and I have been looking at a mobile home rental site in France. Seems like a nice area to vacation. It's owned and presented to UK residents, but anyone could rent or purchase. It's in the Vendée region along the coast. Anyone, Doug or Geoff, aware of the area?
04-13-2013, 11:32 AM
You and your brother both have beautiful wives Henry. Best wishes to Lesley, hope they can solve the problem.
Bill, it was quite misty up there, but I did get a couple of shots.
Fishing on Esthwaite Water.
Sailing on Windermere
Close up of Yacht
Yes, we live just an hour from the Lakes but visit only a few times a year. We explored and camped in the Lakes and the Yorkshire Dales often when the kids were young.
04-13-2013, 11:56 AM
 Good day all! Brightening up a bit out there, but real Spring is a few days away yet.
Am getting the new computer under control, I think :rolleyes: Not swearing as much, anyway :) Microsoft Security was put on, so I'm glad to see that it has a good reputation. I used to have Norton, had the same conflicts, Windows kept trying to overtake it.;
Just getting ready for Johannes class this afternoon, a watercolour, so I'll be paying attention.
Lovely photos, Henry!
Glad you are sounding a bit perkier, Char, too bad about Ted.
Sounds like a nice drive, Doug, I am :envy: Thanks for those photos, beautiful!
France, Bill, how lovely!
Don't work too hard, Uschi :)
Nice sketches, JJ, good to get out, too bad for the weather.
Safe travels, Karl, you know we will all be wanting to see where you have been :).
Hi Ellen, Lulu, Geoff, (((Doris))), Judy!
Have a rewarding day! :grouphug:  :grouphug:
04-13-2013, 12:00 PM
I'm like USCHI.....procrastinating...housework day and I HATE it...I'd much rather be painting.:D Larry is working until 5pm and I want to be done when he gets home so I need to 'stay the course' as they say.
My Mom just called and we talked for an hour...I sure do miss her.:crying: We are planning on going up there on Friday for this coming up weekend. That is IF the weather holds out. They are dealing with ice, snow and wind and she said another storm is coming on Thursday.
Henry, your wife is a beauty and so is your sister. Your brother's wife is lovely too and his talent for photography is amazing. I hope Lesley will be able to come home soon and starts to feel much better real soon.
Hi Karl, enjoy your trip!
Waving to you too Doris!
Aww (((LULU))) I know how the hurt of loss feels; and you are right time makes it a little easier but it hurts no less. I miss my Dad and think about him every day. When I feel down I try to remember how my Mom must feel with her life partner passing on before her. They were married 59 1/2 years when he passed last July. WHOOHOO that you are packing...those snacks probably will be crushed when you arrive there.
I have MacAfee virus protection and I've always been happy with it. Some of the ones you mentioned I've never heard of.
I awoke with a headache and strong coffee isn't helping it so I guess some ibuprofen is in order.
I went to pick up the package at the post office that they've tried to deliver a couple of times. It was the new jacket that I ordered...and it doesn't fit...:o So now after waiting for a long time...it must be sent back...such is life.
Doug, I'm glad you found some roads that you've never travelled before...that is always fun. Glad you and Ruth enjoyed your day and it didn't rain until you got home.
Lynn, we crossposted; glad you're tackling the new puter.
Annie, it's been raining steady here since last weekend...and it's supposed to all this coming week too.
Bill, is the mobile home park like a time-share?
(((CHAR))) hoping you get back to "normal" soon and that Ted's is quick and mild.
JJ, nice sketches, I'm glad you had so much fun with your drawing group.
Doug, WOW...lovely pics ; brave souls already sailing!I love the first one; it'd make a great painting.
Well, I must get my rear in gear and accomplish something soon or Larry will be home and I will still be cleaning.
Enjoy your day everyone!
04-13-2013, 12:03 PM
Doug, I like the Lakes.
Super shots, the middle one is very paintable
Bill, I have been to France a few times, but not the area you refer to, looks like a great place for a vacation
04-13-2013, 12:19 PM
I'm BACK :music:
I cannot sleep past 7 am, oh well, it looks like a nice day, got the kids delivery of the Wine of the Month club, we get it because it needs to be signed for and we don't need to go to work.
Char, good to hear you're better, no surprise you have shared it with Ted
Doug, have you been to the Pencil Museum? They have the worlds largest pencil there. I loved the theroy that the pencil was developed as a result of sheep people using the stones to mark the sheep, then incased it in wood to keep from getting mucky hands.
Must attack the pantry today, I have lots on my list, as the old Girl Scouts are going to meet at our house again, in May.
04-13-2013, 12:50 PM
Yes about 40 years ago Judy :)
04-13-2013, 01:16 PM
Well I Am. back from the Melrose 7's it is still into final semi-finals but my kidneys were suffering with ther cold, at the best it was 12C. it is on TV so not missing it.
There were spectators dressed as Roman soldiers, sheep with Little Bo Peep,Spacemen, lions and tigers and a Queen Bee and swarm....
If my photos of the crowd are any good I will post them here.
Macafee caused lots of problems on my previous computer where it was manufacture installed..it would not work with any anti-spyware/ anti-virus softwear..as mentioned earlier my geek only installs AVG and Microsoft Security now and so far no problems.
ps There was a welcome at the rugby for a Canadian couple who married on Friday, she is from Saskatoon and used to play for 'The Saskatoon Hookers' now renamed Saskatoon Ladies Rugby club, wonder why??
04-13-2013, 01:42 PM
Thanks for the comments re my hibiscus comp and I agree to loose the bud!
Yesterday we had no power and with the ice storm it was like a war zone in our back yard! Trees covered in ice snapping and falling from my neighbours yard onto my deck. Through my deck and thru my shed!
We have a call in to the insurance company, but I think this City was hit so hard it may take a while for them to get back to us.
Have a great one!
I am still recovering from no heat, no hydro and trees snapping through the deck every few minutes!
04-13-2013, 01:58 PM
(((Sharon))) so much damage! Luckily we don't get ice storms here.
04-13-2013, 02:29 PM
Good afternoon, sun is shining, and this is one of my do-nothing days to recharge my batteries. We are going up to Oklahoma to the second largest casino in the world this afternoon.
Sharon, There is so much damage. Hope insurance pays for the repairs.
Henry, I am glad the doctors are being cautious with Lesley until they can figure out what is causing the pain. All three ladies in your life are beautiful.
Doug, Beautiful photos on the lakes.
Ushci, I have to take breaks when I am cleaning, because I would always rather been doing something else.
Have a great day. Hugs to all in need.
04-13-2013, 03:38 PM
Henry lovely pictures all
Sharon what a mess((((())))
Doug. Lake District is always worth a visit even for a few hours.
04-13-2013, 06:09 PM
How distressing Sharon! I hope it is not as bad as it looks. We were so lucky to miss all that.
Computer is working OK , Darla, I rather like Windows 7, now I am getting used to it. Still downloading software for printers, and graphics, etc.
:) Geoff, the Saskatchewan lady.....And it sounds like the Sevens over there are performance art for the audience at least. I don't think that happens over here.
Excellent class with Johannes today, he's done a beautiful watercolour.
my geek only installs AVG and Microsoft Security now and so far no problems.
Geoff, just want to clarify.........does that mean that you have BOTH of them running on your computer at the same time??
04-13-2013, 07:11 PM
JJ, I'm also curious as to why you feel that you need a 4 wheel drive vehicle? Their more expensive to run fuel-wise... Your sketches are nice.
Because, I need it to go camping in the national parks again. All the folks I went camping with, had a 4WD to get into the camping grounds. Much needed to cross the fords etc. I don't intend to do any hard core 4WDing, I am too chicken.
This is our group for the day, the lady on the right and I lead the SketchCrawl group.
HUGE hugs to all in need..
