View Full Version : "Lily Pads, Bonnie Castle Gate"

While I await a new supply of Wallis paper to continue the children's mission portrait series...I decided to experiment with my own ground/gesso mix on canvas board. This was fun to loosen up, play with more colors and paint with Pan Pastels. I used a reference photo taken while on a trip last summer to Alexandria Bay, NY. Bonnie Castle has gone through major renovations over the years.
C&C always welcome!

Very nice Leanne. The lily pads in the foreground need to be more ellipticle (oval) than round. When they are round they do not look like they are laying on the surface.

Yup, those pesky few in the front center, lol. Thanks,Bob. Finished reworking that area yesterday. Now just waiting for the weather, and apply fixative. Already moved on to another.

a nice fresh look - not as ' ominous ' as the ref pix .
since the arch is centered and largest object , my eye looks closely :
the linear perspective needs attention , and because of that along with the walls , the sense of depth is confusing .
the bridge within the arch is too high .
the red house is very close alongside and the colour is very strong/distracting .
your homemade ground and application has a distinctive-personal touch . :)
