View Full Version : Matt & Mutts - WIP

I'm planning on teaching workshops on painting pet portraits. I thought it's be a good idea to start photographing my paintings as WIPs to show my techniques. I don't always paint this way, more often than not using burnt sienna for underpainting, or that and a combo of b. sienna and pthalo blue. This one is acrylic on 16x48" canvas. It's of my parner and our dogs. I decided on red since I did a few others, including a selfportrait with Razz the macaw and like the result. I'm leaving a bit of the red peek out here and there.

I'm almost done. I'll be tweaking skin tones, and alter the folds in the sofa a little. There are a few bits on the dogs I want to address as well but it's getting there.

Frank . I love it. The warm amused tenderness in your partner's face comes across beautifully. Stunning painting.

Thank you Nicki, I hope so.

Thanks Chammi. That's what I liked about the reference photos (I used 2, Jester was looking down in the other)

I really love your painting. And thank you so much for the WIP. I imagine you will be a super teacher. Your steps in the WIP were well-delineated.

I visited your website and saw your self-portrait with Razz. Also awesome.
