This is so much fun! And I think if this was marketed well that it would have commercial potential. Even thinking outside the litter box, this would be an adorable calendar, or a series of greeting cards, Christmas gift poster, ornaments (probably too late for Hallmark this year...) and T-shirts.

and don't forget the charity potential, I could see this being sold to help raise funds for homeless pooches, too. You have created an instant cult piece for those of us who are animal lovers...

now where is the cat version? and the parakeets and parrots? and the Southern version, and you'll need one for the NYC indoor pets, too- maybe a summer poochcamp in the Berkshires????

You may have begun an mini-industry here, we're looking forward to the movie...

Thanx for posting, this pleaseth our eye and warmeth our hearts,

Greg

definitely worth thinking about !! .... if you haven't already, seriously consider getting a quality scan done of this !! ... the cost would definitely be quickly recouped with giclees made of it ... and/or posters ... and or cards ... of the whole image or of crops as you've sampled ... or are you already doing these things with your artwork? ... it wasn't apparent on your site .... at least not that i noticed ... :o ... your painting of america's birthday is also worth all these considerations !! ... fabulous works !!!

Hi and welcome!!
I LOVE THIS!!!!!!!
Such fun and delightful painting!!
Awesome details and fine lines!
How long did it take you to do this??
So, this is whats at the other side of the RAINBOW BRIDGE??
I love this story.
"RAINBOW BRIDGE"
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

THANKS Greg, it is sad but so true..
this is a beautiful story too 9-11 version...
thought I'd share that too..

On the morning of September 11, 2001
there was an unprecedented amount of activity at the Rainbow bridge.
Decisions had to be made. They had to be made quickly. and they were.

An Issue, not often addressed here, is the fact that
many residents really have no loved one for whom to wait.
Think of the pups who lived and died in hideous puppy mills.
No one on earth loved or protected them.
What about the many who spent unhappy lives tied in backyards?
and the ones who were abused.
Who are they to wait for?

We don't talk about that much here.
We share our loved ones as they arrive, happy to do so.
But we all know there is nothing like having your very own person
who thinks you are the most special pup in the Heavens.

Last Tuesday morning a request rang out for pups not waiting for specific persons
to volunteer for special assignment..An eager, curious crowd surged excitedly forward,
each pup wondering what the assignment would be.
They were told by a solemn voice that unexpectedly, all at once,
over 6,000 loving people had left Earth long before they were ready.
All the pups, as all pups do felt the humans' pain deep in their own hearts.

Without hearing more, there was a clamoring among them-
"May I have one to comfort?"
"I'll take two I have a big heart."
"I have been saving kisses forever."

One afte ranother they came foreward begging for assignment.
One cozy-looking fluffy pup hesitantly asked,
"Are there any children coming? I would be very comforting for a child
'cause I'm soft and squishy and I aways wanted to be hugged."

A group of Dalmations came forward asking to meet the firemen and be there friends.
The larger working breeds offered to greet the Police Officers and make them feel at home.
Little dogs volunteered to do what they do best, Cuddle and kiss.

Dogs who on Earth had never had a kind word or a pat on the head,
stepped foreward and said, "I will love any human who needs love."
Then all the dogs, wherever on Earth they originally came from,
Rushed to the Rainbow Bridge and stood waiting,
overflowing with love to share each tail wagging an American Flag.

You should have art prints made from these and sell them in those higher end gift shops ...
This is so adorable and fun, I'm sure they would sell well both in the US and in Europe!
Think about it. Definitely don't just sell the original and it's gone.

wilfred

Thank you for your kind words!

Claudia, yes, I'm going to have this painting scanned and produce some giclees. For me the marketing of prints is very daunting, I have some of my works produced as giclees but only sold very few. I like to create and paint but feel very uncomfortable approaching and making offers to dealers and retailers. I have an agent in the US but my contract with them is mainly for licensing of my images. I'm still looking for a good way to sell prints preferably to the mass market... but really, is there such a thing? Any ideas?

Wilfred - I think you should try the greetings card manufactures - these details you posted are far better than many of the cards I've been viewing this morning!

I think aslo, on a small scale, you'd probably sell cards from Vet surgeries - y'know how soft we dog and cat lovers are! :D

Thanks for posting the extra details Wilfred - and in them, details within details ..... it's a truly magical, whimsical painting.
There are so many of these little pooches doing very doggie things that the work gives us hours of enjoyment :D

Another thought - you could market this online - downloads to people who 'buy' them ......... or market it via ne of the print-making sights who'll do all the work for you!
I'd buy at least a greetings card of one or more of the detail areas :D

Life happened and I haven't painted in a while and today, I thought I'd check the site.

Wilfred, this is terrific work:clap:
Think of how many vet's offices there are in Canada and the US alone and how many of them would proudly have one of those giclees on their walls.

Please do not let this whimsical and beautiful work go unnoticed.

Kathy: your poems brought a river of tears to my eyes. My <little man< went to the Rainbow bridge in March after we lost our battle with his diabetes and other medical problems. We still have his little sister and they are both rescues from a puppy mill after we paid a steep <ransom< to get them out of of that nasty place.

Thank you so much for your comments, Louise! I truly admire people like you who have so much love and compassion for the unfortunate pups, unmindful of the costs. In return you are blessed by their love and loyalty to the end. Thanks for sharing your story.

Thank you everybody for your comments!

I need your help on my current project. I'm now painting a sequel to this work, it's a scene with a doggie School of Obedience.

The school's oval crest is a distinguished looking Golden Retriever in a suit and tie with a monocle. He was the founder of the institution. What do you think is a funny or clever name for the school? It can be any name, not necessarily the name of the founder, but anything related to him would be a bonus. Any suggestion?

i think "Good Doggie" School of Obedience would make a great title ... a little simple, perhaps ... but kind of the golden standard ... :) ... mind you, it could be the "Golden Standard" School of Obedience too, perhaps ... but i prefer the former ...

RE: Name for my Dog School (painting now on my easel):

To Violet, Good Doggie School of Obedience is a great name! Thank you!

I'm thinking of "Dr. Doug House" which I have already used here on the Dog Therapist's window. My son suggested "Barkers" and "Doggie Howser."

Here's the list of possible names so far...

1. Good Doggie
2. Golden Standard
3. Dr. Doug House
4. Barkers
5. Doggie Howser
6.

Any other suggestion?

1. Good Doggie
2. Golden Standard
3. Dr. Doug House
4. Barkers
5. Doggie Howser
6. Rhett T. River
7. Count Rhett T. Reever
8. Gould N. Von Treever

Great suggestions! Thank you so much!!!
