View Full Version : Late in OctoberX
The original thread is here (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1310828).
This is about 16x26. It is a scene right next to my driveway. My first attempt was a pastel and now, the acrylic on birch panel.
The branches drove me crazy.

Very complex and delightful work. Your sense of color is astounding. It shines in this piece. JMHO

Very beautiful. A wonderful feeling of light and shadow. You have captured the late season light perfectly, and you have made the light respond differently on different tree trunks at different distances from the viewer.

Worth the craziness Derek - it's superb! :envy:
Definitely worth going crazy for. Love this.

This is really really nice. The branch work is wonderful. I need to study it since the branches I am currently working on are a hot mess.

Derek...what they said and more! Wonderful use of color and light!! Even tho' I am not fond of snow, I grew up in it (Ohio), so I 'recognize' that scene...:) Love it! And you did great on the branches, well worth the hassle!!

Derek what can I say? This is so lovely I think you can now buy a wee hoose in Dunedin AND a castle in Scotland.
Oh...Dunedin has a castle too. Larnach castle if you're interested. Sad story behind it.

Wow, Derek! So much depth - and I can feel the cold! Your hard work really paid off! It is an inviting landscape and feels like you could "walk right into it" and are there.

Amazing painting Derek! I'm starting to think that you don't really paint these at all..., you just take photos and use a sophisticated version of Paint.NET. :)
Seriously, this is just lovely!
Thanks so much:
Raf (wish I knew your name.
Howard; thanks my friend all hail to acrylics....if this were oil, I would still be at the easel.
Margaret: Aye ye're a' richt bonnie lass.
Hey Deb: Yeah paint programs, I would like to cheat, but I'd hate myself.

wow, how wonderful is that! I love it.
When I read the title, I thought of oranges, browns and reds - fall colors.
Love the winter-y atmosphere, the different colors and the details! A beautiful painting.

love your new loose, impressionistic style
anyone can be loose......your detailed style is absolutely unique and gorgeous......stay 'tight'......your work is fabulous.....and as someone else pointed out, the color choices couldn't be finer......

Congratulations on a wonderful painting. It feels like winter, but not dreary. I really this style.

Totally awesome!! no other words for it!!

Derek, next time to preserve a somewhat stable mental state, maybe do a little pruning before painting this scene.
Beautifully done. I like the spatial relations in this one. As a fellow occasional 'twig' painter, may I ask what brush you like to use for the finer lines in such a painting?
Thanks for showing.

I know its already been said, but..This is Stunningly Good!! Five stars for you!!

BIll: I like to use several liners of different sizes and fluid and acrylic inks mixed......makes a nice flow.

AAA-MMAAAZZZ-IINNG!!! All superlatives apply here! I hate snow at the moment, but this painting is so good it overcomes all my dislike.

Not much more I can add, I am always amazed at the depth of your skills and delighted with your every stroke. Even the most complicated views your painting always flow and carry the viewer into pure uncomplicated delight, mother nature can mix it up but you separate the chaos and present the beauty...love it!!
