Something about viewing sheep that is calming... This was so nice for a peaceful diversion! Rearranged the ewe & lamb since the mama was looking out of the photo... Did this sketch in about an hour with graphite pencil & wash on sketch pad paper - 130 lb - 8 1/2" x 11" - thinking about adding a little watercolor but out of time for now. Will add to the post if I decide to mess with it further...
Thanks for looking! http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/05-Apr-2013/99739-WDE_Sheeps.jpg

So delicate, so pretty and great relationship between the three creatures.
I like the pencil work so would be loathe to add colour personally!
What a lovely seasonal card this will make!
Thank you Patrice - nice to have you back!:)

I love this drawing! I like the calmness and the simplicity of it.
I'd be torn to add some watercolour or just leave it....

Correction made: Trouble with posting right after you think you are done is later a glaring error may be found! :( I realized it was evident the ewe was out of drawing -- resembling a giant weasel with a too-long body. Shortened the body & decided to agree with most of those who were kind enough to suggest to not add any watercolor.

Thank you so very much for your kind remarks! Hoping to do a couple more of Maureen's most excellent references this weekend! :)

You made such a beautiful drawing from the reference, I really like it. It's great.
And I think, it's a good decision not to add color to it (although I love watercolors). The atmosphere in this drawing is perfect as is - imho.

What a lovely drawing! It looks like an illustration you'd find in a children's book! Makes me wonder what the story is between the mama sheep and the little lamb.

I'm glad you didn't put any color on this. I just love it the way it is!

It's a beautiful drawing and very calming, you're right. I agree that it looks like there's a story here. I love the composition change you've made and those trees are just wonderful. I see you made a correction, but it didn't seem to bother me at all in the first drawing---I had to go back and see what you meant!

It's delightful. I'm glad you didn't add color. You can always print it out on wc paper and paint on that to see how it would be with color.

Hello, Patrice. Although I adore your sheep, (the lamb especially reminds me of an illustration in a child's prayer book), I particularly admire your background trees! They are beautifully drawn and give the sheep family a
secure and sheltered home.

Patrice,

I think it's perfect and illustrates a master of composition. You thought this out...and the result shows. I just wanna pick up that little kid and hug it!
