Can't help but think of spring and summer on my favorite painting sites– the farms around my small town in Michigan. Its so cold and grey here right now. I decided to invigorate myself with a little color. Crits welcomed and appreiciated!

What a nice sunny colourful painting and it certainly banishes all the cold and gloom away.I particularly like all the colours in the grass.

This is beautiful. It's great how you've varied the temperature of areas to create a sense of depth.

Thanks guys. Light and shadow are the whole reason I paint, so I thought this was a good subject for me. It is painted on 12 x 12 inch terra cotta Art Spectrum paper with an assortment of pastels. Nupastels to start, then Rembrandts and finally the softies, Great American, Sennelier and Unison.

wonderful handling of light and shadow , to be sure !
some touches of burnt umber in the front edge of the ' straw field ' might be useful for transition/depth ,
but it may be that my screen isn't catching that .
it must have been great fun to paint . :)
Oh I love trees! And I love rocks! And I love your painting! :)
Really fascinating how you created that wonderful light/shadow play.
Could be Finland, by the way...

Thanks Ed and Raxu. Isn't it funny how some landscapes are universal?

Jill - This is a really, really nice piece. The more you look at it, the more it reveals itself in its beauty and perfection. I love the way that you have used the light, the cast shadows, and the subtle use of reflected light to enhance the composition. All this is balanced by your great use of color, and aerial perspective.

Thank you! Troutblum all of my work is based on light and shadows so I am so thankful that that part of the painting "spoke" to you!
