This is a painting I'm finishing up. I need a little advice on making the flower look more like it is resting on top of the keys, rather then just "floating" above.
Someone please help?!

I am guessing a shadow on the keys would make it 'sit down'.

Nice job btw

The shadow on the keys would touch the stem and petals. I'd put it closer to the black keys.

I can only dream of painting as good as this, the floating flowers add to the dream. why spoil my dream leave it Please

Maybe start by simply reinforcing (slightly darkening) the shadows that you already put under parts of the stem. Great work otherwise, I really like it!

I have made the changes to the shadows as suggested. What a difference! Thanks everyone.

Wonderfully painted Susie - what medium?

Cannot imagine how you had the patience to paint all those piano keys so accurately! The branch & bloom are lovely.

Mike

I'd only suggest 'settling down' the greenery at the bottom of the painting. Again, shadows toward the edge of the painting.

Otherwise, great work.

Mike the painting is done with water soluble oil on canvas, and I was quit surprised at how little time it took to paint.
Dana, thanks for the advice.

Looks great susie-q! if i'll painting these image ,l will work a little more on the details of leafs ,and the petals ,in a word a little more work on the rose ,just to give enough sharpness ,to give some perspective.in this stage the rose looks a little bit blurry ,contrasting with the piano keys that are very sharpen .
So ,the rule of perspective is that the object closer to your eye (in the focus),is sharpen an more detailed than the objects placed to a bigger distance:)
Very nice painting!Love the wood texture and color:)
