This is a pastel piece, on 18" x 24" Colorfix, based on a great reference photo by Ewa Brzozowska: http://bubble-gum-heart.deviantart.com/art/september-light-22505751. I would appreciate a frank critique. What do you think of the likeness? Colors? Proportions of the figure? I'd appreciate your input as I continue to make adjustments.

I've included the preliminary, black and white sketch.

It's beautiful and hard for a novice like me to offer much advice. The only things I see are probably things you have yet to finish - left breast looks a little different from sketch and piano keys not "in line". Love the "mood" of the painting. Face, body etc all look perfect to me. Pam

Love the colours and the expression on her face, regarding the proportions on the body, her right wrist looks too wide to me

The sketch and the painting is a slightly different pose. I agree about her wrist and her left leg looks odd. I am not sure what it is doing. Otherwise it is looking good. I am sure you will work it out.

This is a beautifully loose painting. Love the feeling & color palette. You have a very fine likeness. I agree with the wrist being too wide & the left leg. Perhaps you could fade out the bottom of the leg or just continue it off the page - either would probably remove the amputee look. One more tiny nit pic, I find the design on the piano to be a little distracting from her face. Softening that a tad should fix that right up. Great piece.

Here's the latest version. I tried to address everyone's comments.

Tanja -- thanks! I cropped the bottom in a way that should alleviate the amputee look. I also played with the background throughout to get a better sense of depth. I'd love your further thoughts. Thanks!

Turpentine -- thanks! I'd love your further thoughts.

Robbie -- I reworked the wrist and hand -- would love to hear your reaction to the current version.

Pam -- thanks for the compliments. I made some adjustments to the chest area and also to the piano keys. What do you think?

Thanks, everybody!!
