Hi all,

This is a portrait of a friends dog, can't remember the breed type. Size 9" x 8.5" on pastelmat using mostly Unisons and pastel pencils.
Regards,
John

Stunning image! Great detail! Working on a Shelty dog now, a nightmare with That hair. How Many layers did you need for this quality?

Mary, Pam, Stephanie & Pat thanks very much. I would say there are perhaps six layers and just out of interest I timed this one, 19.5 hours crazy I know!

Wow, John! This is really beautiful with incredible handling of the eyes & fur. I can't imagine how you accomplished so much in so small a format, it impacts so much larger. Great painting.

Wonderful work John! Looks like a blue roan Cocker Spaniel to me. You got the texture and colour of hair perfect.

Beautiful portrait John. The fur is excellent, as are the eyes. I can relate to 19 hours, I'm sure if I actually figured out how many hours I spend on some of my paintings I would croak  ! I never finish anything in one sitting, or two, or three.... well, you get the idea. Good things come to those who wait! This is beautiful!
