I picked up some 30lb Vellum the other day and here's what I came up with. I simply printed images off the evil computer and started cutting, (with scissors), and physically layering. I did manipulate the P-40 to a blue and pumped up the contrast and brightness, and mirrored the Varga pin up to get her into the flow of the scene.
There are 2 sheets of vellum over the flag image in the back, one more over the P-40 and the last one over the pin up, so your looking through 4 sheets of vellum to get all the way into the background.
I cut the mat myself and did the acrylic/matte medium/transfer trick off some maps of the CBI, theater during WWII. I had to run them on the copier to get them to transfer to the matte medium, then gave the whole mat a Raw Umber wash. Frame is a 5 dollar special from Walmart spray painted OD

Interesting technique, Steve. The framing and matting is always the costly part, nice to see your solution.
