Thank you for the time you put into hosting the WDE! You are so privileged to live in such a beautiful country.
I like the view of the Romanian hamlet, as seen from one of the hills.

Love the thick brushstrokes :)
Dave, this is a very nice painting!!! Beautiful brushstrokes and I like the red touches!
Actually I don't live there anymore, I moved to Greece since 1996, but I go from time to time, as my family is there.
Thank you for joining the WDE and for taking the challenge too!

The brushstrokes do a lot to model the landscape. The muted greens work well.

Thank you for the comments/ compliments. I actually had a really hard time with this painting, which is unusual for me.
From about 2000 - 2010, I spent those years studying how others paint landscapes. Most of those artists were impressionist-like, or realist painters. As I developed, my own personal style diverged from the other artists', dramatically so when painting anything other than landscapes.
So, where I ended up with this painting, was in the middle of a confusing and frustrating area--my intuition screaming expressionism, but my "trained" hand fighting it back to realism.
At the end of the day, I still believe we each should paint by intuition more than instruction, or at least solidly in one or the other direction. Being in the middle just leaves things undecided. The WDE helps me through those growing pains and it's fun, too!
So many other beautiful works this week. And, I look forward to continued participation.
