View Full Version : WDE March 8 Dracula's Digs

Dracula's Digs.
This is my 2 hour ink and acrylic sketch, 9"x 6".
I decided to go way outside my usual box and be a little bit creative. Fun in a freaky Halloween kind of way. I have to say it was weird after a while drawing so many "Scary Movie" faces. It made me think of how atrocious this man was. The hand symbolizes his power and control on his people. The skulls represents the victims as the foundation of his home-seat of power. The red you all can guess is the blood shed. Cheery right? Still, a fun experiment! I thought this was the perfect opportunity since we are talking Dracula here... First time I have worked with India ink.

Good answer to the "blood" RED challenge and good humor as well. Glad you were able to work out the uploading problem. Very creative and well done! You should use that on your door at Halloween!

LOL Yeah I have no idea what to do with this piece now....its a little freaky. And I... am not.:D My preteen daughter kept coming around saying "WHAT are you drawing?". She is use to the horses, and portraits, landscapes and flowers you see. Funnily enough she finally said, "Are you doing this for Wet Canvas?". I didn't realize she even knew much about this site. Anyways, I had a house full of kids, and one new friend who came in and was remarking on my usual work. I sort of was glad she didn't see this, because I thought this kid is going to go back to her parent's and tell her I am one weird MOM! LOL

Indeed great take of the challenge and fantastic creativity!!! I do agree that this is a good illustration of the way Vlad used to rule. According to history books, he would impale all his enemies, and he would always like to drink a glass of fresh blood running from the impaled victim. Beautiful painting and I am happy you took the decision to get out of your comfort zone! The result is just great!

Great response to the challenge, and it creates the perfect mood for Dracula's lair.

Suitably creepy use of the colour to create the oppressive atmosphere.
I read Vlad's bio again on Wiki as I painted this. Charming chap!

Great job incorporating the challenge. This reminds me of the church of skulls in Poland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Poland_-_Czermna_-_Chapel_of_Skulls_-_interior_06.jpg).

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the feedback!
I knew he impaled his victims and left them that way to rot for his citizen's benefit. I had no idea he drank their blood (now I really see the vampire mythology).
