I've been on Wetcanvas for a few years now and totally missed this Aviation Forum!

'Supermarine Seafire' 18"x20" Acrylic on canvas. The Supermarine Seafire Mk.XVII SX336 was built by Westland Aircraft Ltd. at Yeovil and handed over to the FAA on May 3, 1946. The Supermarine Seafire was a naval version of the Supermarine Spitfire adapted for operation from aircraft carriers. The name Seafire was arrived at by abbreviating the longer name Sea Spitfire.

With this painting I wanted to leave the story to the viewer. The aircraft may be lining up to land on an aircraft carrier or may be bearing down on a German Patrol boat.

Excellent painting of an aircraft from a classic line. The Spitfire line never had the same adulation in the Navy as it did in the land based Air Force. The original design was never intended to be ship born, and try as they might it could never compair with the American Carrier Born designed from the deck up a/c like the Hellcat, Corsair types. The UK finally got it right with the Seafury!
Thanks for sharing
Jim
PS hope he isn't going after a German patrol boat, WW2 ended in 1945!

Thank you for the comments, and thank you Neil again for showing me this forum page. For some reason it doesn't show up in the channels selection for me therefore I had no idea it existed. I do aviation paintings amongst my other transportation related subjects, and will be sure to check out this page more often!

Thank you for the comments! This one just sold on the weekend! It always feels good when someone connects with a painting. I am looking forward to doing some more aviation work in the near future as it seems to be relatively popular with collectors and I enjoy creating them.

Thank you again!
