View Full Version : WDE Mar 1 Cyclists (in the spirit of... )

well this didn't go as planned :(

i really liked the cyclist reference, but i knew i couldn't get a painting done this weekend as it is complicated so i thought ok... i'll do a small one instead. i hadn't done a ACEO (2.5 X 3.5 inches) in ages... first mistake. my eyes aren't what they used to be, even with glasses, and i had a heck of a time seeing what i was doing.

Second mistake was i decided to dig out my watercolor pencils, which i also hadn't used in ages. This is why i normally use acrylics... the colors stay relatively close to what is on the palette after they dry!

after the w/c pencils started going badly, i tried to add more ink for definition... time to cut losses and quit after that!

anyway... this is the mess that resulted. i think i should have just left it at the ink sketch. i was ok with that...lol

in the spirit of....

watercolor pencil and ink on 2.5 X 3.5 inch watercolor paper. 2 hours of my life i will never get back! :wink2:

You are way too hard on yourself Mike...but funny. I think you made a complete composition in a very tiny space. The bold outline gives to nice definition. I really like it, just enough detail without being fussy. We should all have those kinds of mistakes!

   what's this 'in the spirit of' nonsense? Couldn't resist Mike.

Don't apologise it is not easy working small and with all that accurate detail. It's great! Lovely drawing

I think 2 hrs well spent,
it is harder to paint small than very big

No, no, no......Not wasted at all! I can't even think of doing anything that small.

I think both drawing and finished version are really good - and here you're showing them magnified - they're great!!!

I know you have high standards - and they haven't slipped - so stop beating yourself up!!!!

Here's nearer the right size!

If you want it in the first post Mike, just PM me:)
