http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/28-Feb-2013/1074992-WDE_Sherry.JPGHi. Well I have never participated before. Hope you like it! Its been a long time since I did a speed drawing. But I did it in 2 hours. Whew! Graphite (HB, H, 3B, 6B), 9"x12", Strathmore bristol 300 series. I had a terrible time trying to get details, but it was dark or patchy or over exposed by camera or scanned. But here it is anyways...:crossfingers:

Wow! Welcome to the WDE's! I know you from comments in the RIL. If this is your speed painting, I'd love to see more. This is a spot on portrait of Sherri from the reference. The likeness, modeling and spirit of the portrait are all beautifully realized and she is just wonderful! Hope you join in on a regular basis. Sharron will love this! (P.S.... graphite never photographs well but we can see beyond that.) She's just lovely!

Great likeness! Welcome to the WDE:)

Very nice drawing. This technique is time consuming, you've done well to get this degree of finish in the time. I particularly like your treatment of the hair.

Thanks everyone. This has been such a fun experience. Its good to push yourself once in a while. I tend to work slowly-life gets in the way. This disciplined me and helped fend off insomnia last night. I started very late last night. I was tired by the end-in the best way. Then I was determined to try to post it! LOL I can't help but be inspired by the approaches other people take, the more I see everyone's work. I hope to push my creativity in the future. Plus, its so nice to have a friendly place for feedback! Thanks again!

 Hi and welcome Paintboss - what a wonderful likeness in a short time esp. the process you have used. It is not necessary to complete in 2 hrs, just post work as WIP in 2 hrs. and then complete as much time as needed by posting in the same thread. Look forward to seeing your work in next WDE.

Aw thanks, you make me feel good! :)I knew I could slow down and do a WIP, but you know, I just wanted to challenge myself. Get the lead out, light a fire under me,... if you know what I mean.I have been doing landscapes lately, so it was so nice to do a portrait. Sherry was a lovely subject to draw. I also love drawing children, so maybe another time....
I did a lot of reading but still can't figure out how a resized image (Wet Canvas site does it) I am uploading to this forum can be rotated (???). I find when it uploads and resizes it comes up sideways! Landscape instead of portrait layout. If ANYONE knows how to do this please let me know here, or private message me or point me to an actual post. I read thru a lot in the wee hours of the morning and didn't find the answer. I know the answer is out there somewhere!!! Thanks!

Beautiful drawing, great likeness.

Lets see if I have figured out how to resize my original picture of this project...The colour may be a bit better then that dark yellow lighting. I had to keep it a bit dark to capture the gray shading... It worked! Whoo Hoo! :D

I read from your comments that this was a speed painting, boy, would I love to see more from you. She's a delight to look at!!!
I must apologize for my lateness in responding, had some pressing family issues, and have been off line
more or less since WetCanvas had it's shut down, at the end of my WDE.
But I'm back, and so glad to be able to see your talent and magic in this portrait.
Welcome to the WDE's Christine. So looking forward to see more of your works!!!
