View Full Version : *** Daily Wash - Thursday 14th February 2013 ***

02-13-2013, 09:33 PM
Well guys, I went back to work last weekend for the first time in 7 months.

The first shift I had 2 ICU babies, second shift was given choice of 4 High Dependancy babies or take twins back to Bunbury, a 2 hour trip South of Perth, so I went to Bunbury of course, took the whole shift. The Taxi Driver was a good friend of Monty and I's. How's that for a cruisy weekend back at work, and getting paid no less.

Take Care.
Lots of Love Carolynn. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:  :)

..........and the award for the blue ears goes to.............:D

02-13-2013, 09:48 PM
Hi Carolynn, and Geoff, when he's adjusted his ears and the two threads are merged.......:D

Good to see you Carolynn, and what a perfect day's work for you:thumbsup:

Lulu, When my DH had his broken wrist, the physical therapist made him a splint like the one you are wearing. It was so interesting to see her cut the plastic, put it in the machine to warm, then shape it to fit his wrist. Hope your thumb gets better quickly so you can be split free soon.

It was exactly like that Sylvia! fascinating! She said it would be 6 weeks before she will know if we are on the right track, but I don't mind, already the swelling and inflamation have diminished just because the thumb (and particular the top joint) can't move. So :crossfingers: , or in this case, thumbs! lol

Oh, and Happy Valentine's Day! not that we celebrate it personally, we don't need to, it's all about love, consideration and being made to feel special and appreciated isn't it? so every day is Valentine's Day here:heart:

02-13-2013, 10:13 PM
Hi Carolynn... your Wash is timed earlier than Geoff's so, I'm posting here... :) It's been such a long time since you've worked with your babies, did they tire you out?

Geoff, you look so handsome in blue. I'm hoping this brings a smile...

Welcome back Jackie... I'm sorry for your losses and hope you'll be visiting us a little more often now.

 Lulu... ok, without any movement, though...

Purple is my favourite colour, Penelope! :) Is your image loaded on the website yet?

Happy Valentines to you, too, Allan!

Well... Happy Valentines Day to All!!!!

Kids have gone off to see Warm Bodies... it doesn't appeal to me, but I think the young people will love it.

I'm off to LaLaLand... My last Class was excellent... we were having so much fun and no one really wanted to go home! I was pretty tired by the end of the day...

G'nite and sleep tight... or Morning Glories!

02-14-2013, 12:44 AM
Hi Char.

((((Allan)))) sorry you have to have more surgery.

02-14-2013, 02:59 AM
Good morning all - Happy Valentine's Day.

I merged your Wash Geoff, you have the blue ears back

Best wishes for your surgery Allan.

Sounds like a good first day back at work Carolynn, good to see you well again.

Welcome back Jackie, good to see you again.

Painting class for me, fashion show for Ruth and Jean today.

Off to make breakfast.

02-14-2013, 03:08 AM
Happy birthday to Jean, Doug. Have a good day.

02-14-2013, 03:17 AM
Good evening.

Carolynn  real cushy.

Geoff, so blue  The greeting card celebration isn't practised that much here either, apart from the ersatz world of shopping centres. But it's getting bigger. Easter is coming up and that's started a bit of a hearts chocolate bunny frenzy which should settle by Mothers Day in May with fluffy slippers, to be rekindled for Fathers day in September and replaced by conk out power tools and then we will have Christmas again, after Halloween, which is seriously a retail plunge in this country. Not native. Nor is Thanksgiving. No one would give a ta after eating a scrub turkey.

Lulu, did you give yourself a mallet thumb? You must have been upset after the kids left. I only chop of the fleshy bits at the end of the digits.

Hi Jackie

Doug

No news here except that the cats are fed and in and Roger has managed to fold his diffuser with a minimum of language, by using his bandsaw blade technique.
Wants turkey for dinner again. OOPs.

Life is exciting, No ?

02-14-2013, 03:19 AM
Blue ears are for anytime and anyone Geoff.

02-14-2013, 03:22 AM
Well Carolynn wasn't lurking when I started!!!
Who expects blue ears at just after 2.30 GMT?

02-14-2013, 03:29 AM
Lulu.... You must have been upset after the kids left.

...something of an understatement....:)
Am used to it now though, especially since there are only 62 sleeps left:thumbsup:

Geoff, ol' blue ears, you know us Down Unders, we stick together when it comes to beating someone from the 'home country'.....:D

02-14-2013, 03:38 AM

Know what you mean Lulu!

02-14-2013, 03:47 AM
Golly Geoff, I didn't know cats work for Telstra?? I didn't know cats work  I don't know that cats work. At all. I shall give mine jobs tomorrow. :crossfingers:

02-14-2013, 03:55 AM
Mine would be very good at that job Annie :D

Incidentally, brings to mind the constant phone calls I was getting from a telemarketer from 'some faraway place'.......I got so sick of her I ended up saying 'one moment please' and left the phone off the hook. Did that every time she phoned, don't get the calls any more - and Geoff's pic reminded me! lol

02-14-2013, 04:23 AM

Who said work?????????????

02-14-2013, 04:25 AM
Those are so funny Geoff! I wouldn't have thought so once lol

Better go and make a milo drink and get off to bed.
Nite all

02-14-2013, 04:31 AM
  Happy Valentines to all lovers

I get another one sefportrait if ya want

02-14-2013, 04:52 AM
Phillipe, I am not certain about your how to fix. . NICE avatar  ... Doug ... help him.

Geoff, you just stop teasing Loki, NOW!!!!!

Sleepy Bo Bo's now. Yes the pleasantly plump brown thing will need to be gently moved. Or squashed.

Good morning everyone, 9 ! Deg here, westerly force 4 and I am going outside as it is mild and a bit sunny. The scooter is being readied.

Henry, brilliant painting I love it, very abstract yet instantly recognisable. When I was studying the history of modern art I was taught sloping diagonals give the feeling of excitement, yours certainly do that.

Please excuse my brevity, I will post again later if not asleep.
Peace and light everyone.

02-14-2013, 06:58 AM
Well, it's good to be back, But I need to get into the habit of posting regularly again instead of lurking, even Monty asked me the other day whether or not I go on WetCanvas anymore.

I get so caught up and distracted doing things, then the next thing I know it's time for bed, and I'm trying to be good and not end up on my i- pad until all hours so I generally don't take it to bed at night.

I really enjoyed my first two days back at work, as most of you know, I really enjoy my job a lot, even though I had two ICU babies on the first shift, it wasn't at all stressful even though I hadn't worked for 7 months. The surprise was on Sunday was when I arrived at work to start at 1300, and to actually be asked if I wanted 4 High Dependancy Babies or Escort twins back to a South West Coastal Town called Bunbury. These boys had been about 26 week pre-termers and were now heading towards 40 weeks gestation. The extra Bonus on this trip was the fact that the Taxi Driver is an extremely good friend of myself and Monty, so too is his wife who also works in the Nursary.
Bunbury is a 2 hour drive South of Perth, we were met by the Parents when we arrived, and came up to the Nursary with us. The Midwife met us up there, checked they were the right babies, and seeing as the boys had only had a half feed an hour prior to leaving Perth they were Starving, especially the smaller of the two, so the first thing we did after checking them, was pouring them a feed and settling Mum and Dad down to feed them, then I gave the Nurse a thourough Handover. The boys and Mum will stay there for around 4 days for Mum to MotherCraft in order to get used to them and ensure they continue to put on weight, then home they will go.

We then filled up with fuel to head back to work, and Jimmy bought me a Drink and Sausage Roll. We arrived back at the Hospital at 2030 having left at 1530. When I got back into the Unit the girls said I could go home an hour early as I hadn't had any Coffee or Meal Break, so yet another Bonus, so called Monty to tell him I'm on my way home.

There was a HUGE Welcome back from the girls on the morning and afternoon shifts and the early start night shifts on both days, also a few new faces, no doubt this will go on for the next few weeks, this happens everytime I go back after extended leave. It's almost like Coming Home.

Anyway Guys, I have waffled on for some time just now, so I'll say cheerio for now and will join you all again hopefully again tomorrow, I'll go and get some ironing done before Monty gets home.

Take Care.
Lots of Love Carolynn.  :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:     :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

I merged your Wash Geoff, you have the blue ears back

Geoff, you look so good in BLUE.

I had a super day. Went to the bike shop this afternoon to finalise the purchase of my bike.

My new bike being fitted with it's added extras..

Then, I went out for a walk with a new walking group. These guys walk around the river walk..
This is the William Jolly Bridge, and the pink flash on the right, is the Brisbane wheel, all lit up for Valentines Day.

That is the Story Bridge, the one I climbed. We had dinner/supper in the Story Bridge Hotel in the Shelter Bar. It was, once a bomb shelter. Cool eh!!!

02-14-2013, 07:30 AM
JJ - they forgot the mudguards

Nice shots of the bridges.

Glad you are enjoying your return to work Carolynn.

Enjoy your trip out Nipper.

Sorry Philippe, it's not your fault the avatar uploader is out of action and the F+W techies seem incapable of mending it. You may want to upload your picture to your signature instead until it is fixed.

After all the rain and snow it is now a lovely sunny day here and the temperature has risen to 8C.

02-14-2013, 07:34 AM
JJ - they forgot the mudguards :lol:OYE!!!! It is a mountain bike :p

02-14-2013, 07:50 AM

Good Day All,

Geoff, you seem to have become very fond of cats. Great photos!

JJ, nice bike. What is the brand name again?

Doug, a belated Happy Birthday to Jean.

Carolyn, so nice that you are back doing what you love and are so successful at.

Lulu, hopefully the splint will have done it's job by the time you head to the desert.

Doug, what size should photos be in order to enter on the signature line?

I've chased the raccoon away three times this morning. I've repositioned the trap and baited it with a paper towel soaked in chicken broth. We'll see.
It is such a destructive animal. I have no love for them.

Work to do.

02-14-2013, 07:53 AM
Doug, what size should photos be in order to enter on the signature line?
Hi Bill, strictly speaking signature lines should be your artwork, but in theses circumstances a 60 pixel high avatar would be OK.

Hope you get that raccoon.

02-14-2013, 08:32 AM

Larry brought home a dozen roses last evening for me. 11 red and one white; they are beautiful.:smug: Along with a card that made me cry. He always picks out the best ones. I was going to bring them into work this morning to enjoy here but decided that I didn't want to try to figure out a way to get them there without too much trouble. I'll just enjoy them at home.

IT's grey out and cold this morning. I haven't even looked lately at the forecast so I don't know what's in store for us.

I cannot believe that it's already Thursday! THe week has flown by.

JAckie, I'm so sorry for your lossses. I know it's difficult because I lost my Dad last July. I hope you will continue to drop in and start to enjoy your life again. Painting is very theraputic.

June, I'm excited to see England and Scotland; we are taking a train in England but will have the advantage of a personal escort around Scotland. I like that as we can stop for pics a lot.

Carolynn, WHOOHOO...I'm glad you felt well enough to return to work. I'm also glad you were welcomed back so thoughtfully. Do keep up with us here in the wash.

LULu, I too had a splint when I fractured my hand, and it was indeed informative watching them make it. Sorry you had a bad night. Only 60 more sleeps??

Doug, enjoy your visit with Jean, it sounds like you and Ruth will.

Bill, raccoons are SO destructive...not good animals at all to have visiting.

Geoff, enjoy your outing on your scooter!

Geoff, those cat funnies are a hoot.

JJ, your bike looks like a very nice one...nice pics of the bridges.

Phillipe, I hope you can manage to get your avatar in your signature line anyway. That is a bummer; they don't seem to be in any hurry to fix it! I guess that means we'll never age here in the wash because we won't be able to update our photos.:D

Annie, turkey sounds good and I have a turkey breast in the freezer...I will have to think about cooking it soon.

I didn't sleep at all well last night. I woke up with the feeling that something was crawling on my face! I flung off the bedspread, turned on the night light; woke up Larry and we looked everywhere for the spider that I thought it was. NOTHING...that is the second time that I've done this in the past month. He thinks I dreamed it but I think it was real and the "pest" is eluding me. Anyway then I couldn't get back to sleep.

I awoke with a headache and scratchy throat. Keeping my fingers crossed that it's nothing.:crossfingers:

I hope you have a most enjoyable day and make the most of whatever it may bring you.

BBL:wave: :grouphug:

 everyone,
I feel guilty because I ended up curled up and reading the whole day yesterday. I need to get some housework done today, a few other jobs, and then a meeting of our local art club tonight. I also want to get the drawing for my next painting finished.

My son (the actor in Toronto) was in a web series that was just named one of the 10 best web series in Toronto. I hope this link works. I couldn't get the link thing to work from my iPad using the link icon above but when I just typed in the web address it worked as a link.

Carolynn- so glad you were able to get back to work you love. Sounds like a great shift.

Not much else new here right now. I hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Morning Washers !

Just lost a rather lengthy post..... :(

Shortened version.

 Welcome Back Jackie !!!! Hoping that you will return to being a regular Washer!

Nipper, enjoy your time outside in the sunshine.

Uschi, I tried to purchase a box of Calgon a couple of years back only to discover I couldn't find it anywhere. Finally contacted the manufacturer Reckitt something. It is no longer available in Ontario (Canada?) There was a similar product called Calgonite on the shelves the last time I bought Calgon (maybe 10 years ago) couldn't find it either. Please let me know if you have better luck.

I am off to the family doc this morning for a post op check up and then we need a few things at the grocery store. Not sure if I am ready to walk the aisles yet though. I may send Dan in with a short list and wait in the Van. I will see when we get there. Hoping to make a short stop in at the library though.

I need to get horizontal again so BBL

You might have seen this before but it is rather good.....very patriotic USA!

A huge turnout at our friends funeral, two sets of people on our table had been to three this week......it's that time of year here......one of them was 101 and she, like my Mother, didnt want to carry on........

Weather pretty warm about 7/8C and most snow gone but roads flooded.

02-14-2013, 09:57 AM
Good Morning Valentines! Kinda cloudy here in the SW of Ontario... Rain/snow is on its way.

I have bread rising and it smells good even before getting into the oven! I need to make some cookies today, too. Nurse Matt has to work today and then he's taking his Girl out for a romantic dinner... everyone say "Awh..." :) They loved the movie Warm Bodies, btw...

I'm going to finish my cherries painting.

For all our Downton Abbey followers... Downton Abbey Cooks (http://downtonabbeycooks.com/)!!!!!

Allan, I'm so sorry that you require more surgery... ((()))

Sounds like you've got a nice day happening, Doug... Happy Birthday wishes going out to your Sister Jean!

Annie, I'm sure you have a very special romantic dinner planned for Roger... :)

Lulu, only 62 sleeps??? WowieZowie...

LOVE the kitty photos, Geoff...

We continuously get calls to help us reduce our credit card interest rates. We can press *2* to never get called again. The *2* is worn out on our phone.

Handsome avatar Philippe... and wonderful self portrait!

Happy scooting, Nipper! Doesn't it feel great to get out into the fresh air... I hate being imprisoned during the winter months...

Awh, Carolynn... of COURSE you were missed! What a nice way to return to work... I was a little concerned that you'd be worn right out.

That's a smart looking bike, JJ...

Bill, your raccoon sounds like he's *people smart* and it's going to be a real challenge to live-trap him.

Ash is a good actor, Ellen (I watched an episode)...

Gail, does your grocery store have scooters available? They're fun to drive...

Geoff, would you like to see a Canadian version? It's pretty short... Canada Shares (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cotGh4Lu29M)...

Have a happy, healthy and creative day everyone...

Hi to All

As it Is St Valentines day, here is a Robert Burns poem

O my Luve's like a red, red rose
That's newly sprung in June;
O my Luve's like the melodie
That's sweetly played in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a' the seas gang dry:

Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi' the sun;
I will luve thee still, my dear,
While the sands o' life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only Luve,
And fare thee weel awhile!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho' it ware ten thousand mile.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Brian gave me a card and a miniature rose tree that is just starting to bloom!

I am still hanging on to this cold now for 2 weeks!

Have a great one!

02-14-2013, 11:32 AM
Amazing video Geoff - awesome!

02-14-2013, 11:41 AM
thanks Yorky I 'll try someday, maybe changing the file name will work too, I'll see.

02-14-2013, 11:53 AM
The uploader isn't working, but needless to say after 8 inches of water the river is far out of it's banks. Banks which TOWER above the river here like crimson cliffs.

Heading out to get more photos soon.

02-14-2013, 11:58 AM

Seems to work for me Caryl. Stay safe.

02-14-2013, 12:17 PM
http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/14-Feb-2013/385681-water.jpg This is from the top of a a HUGE hill. THe river belongs about half a mile to the right behind the far trees. Don't worry, I keep my distance, fast dark water scares me silly.

02-14-2013, 01:45 PM
It's snow-raining... raw and miserable... the tenets of early spring perhaps.

Two beautiful loaves of bread are cooling. Several dozen flourless walnut crisp cookies are in the jar.

I made a wonderful split primary colour wheel. What fun it was! I need to create a good template for my Students.

 Thank you Henry.

Oh how nice, Sharon! My husband gave me a hug! :)

On my bucket list is a cruise to Alaska, Geoff... I want to see these up close and personal. I loved the Canada video because we've seen and/or done most of it!

Looks like the sun is finally out, though, Caryl... hopefully, that water will recede without damage to property.

02-14-2013, 02:29 PM
SUN... is that what that big orange fireball in the sky is called? I vaguely remember that name...

02-14-2013, 03:25 PM
Good Afternoon all,
It is a little after 3:00 p.m. here in a lovely sunny, bright blue sky dotted with fluffy white clouds afternoon in Oakwood. Nice day today. :D

 Happy Valentine's Day  to all my fellow Washers! Larry gave me a new kind of cereal for breakfast...shaped like little hearts instead of circles. Awwwwwww!

Geoff, That is a lovely video, I had not seen it before. The view over the Grand Canyon was spectacular. Love the little Wright-B Flyer that was in most scenes. That was the plane that was invented right here in Dayton, Ohio. The Museum of the United States Air Force is actually built on the field where the Wright Brothers used to do their test flights. :D

Caryl, That flooding is scary. Stay safe and dry.

Char, I'm going to have to do a test version of the split primary color wheel too. My signs are up at Hithergreen, so we'll see if enough people are interested in a class for it to go next month. :crossfingers:

Our little local newspaper had a happy photo on the front page today. Two little boys hugging their cat who had gone missing for 13 days! They advertised in this same paper and put flyers out asking if people see it to call them. But the kitty came home on its own, 4 lbs lighter and a little bit beat up, but it is safe and warm now. So sometimes there are happy endings.

Carolyn, I'm glad you were able to go back to work and take care of those special little babies so lovingly. :D

Bill, I do hope you catch that nasty raccoon soon. What is Ms Feral doing in the meantime???? Does she still come around for you to feed her and give her pats? Will you need to fumigate and sterilize her nice little home once you do catch the varmint????

Ellen, Which one of the 10 web series is your son in? Congratulations to him. You actually paused long enough to read a book???? You are always doing something, you have boundless energy it seems. :D

Henry, I remember studying that lovely poem by Robert Burns in English class. I would love to hear it read with a Scottish accent though. :D

 to all who were here before me and to those still on their way.

Sylvia, I have prepared two other beds for her to take cover, one in a box and one under the deck table, which is draped with a canvas to protect it from the winter. It's windproof and has a foam bed to keep warm.

I take in her dishes every morning and wash them with bleach. I'll take them in tonight. She can go the night without the food. I'll leave water, though it will freeze. She is most of the time waiting at the door in the morning for me to feed or pet her.

She has a bed at the door during the day, as she likes to be near us but not inside with us.

Hearts for breakfast? Romance is always a good start for the day. :)

02-14-2013, 03:48 PM
It's raining snowballs!

Less than 10 minutes later, it's raining rain... Aah, Canadian winters...

How romantic of Larry to make you heart shaped breakfast...

Ms. Feral is sure lucky to have you as her Protector, Bill...

So, I think that my dearest is taking me out for supper... Chinese it is... maybe not... it wreaks havoc on his sugar numbers.

02-14-2013, 03:52 PM
Sylvia, here is the poem

02-14-2013, 04:03 PM
Almost time to go home; and I'm ready; my throat feels raw.:( My ears hurt and my glands are swollen. I must be getting something.

I don't want to have to call in sick; working towards an attendance bonus but if I feel worse in the morning I just might have to.

Char, those cookies sound delicious AND fresh baked bread....oh yum...spread with real butter. OH Char, Chinese, yum.

Sylvia, I hope you have enough people interested in taking your class on color.

Bill, I sure do hope you catch that coon; so that he can be re-located far, far away from Ms Feral.

Caryl, it'll most likely take a while for all that water to go down. I just hope you don't get anymore rain for a while.

It's raining here; miserable cold rain with some brisk wind. It's been dark and gray all day.

I'm making bacon-potato chowder for dinner tonight; Larry was hungry for it and it'll taste good on such a blustery, cold day. I'll get it going and let it simmer while I do my walk.

I hope everyone had a great day today and has an even better night.

Stay warm,

02-14-2013, 04:27 PM
Thank you. That sounded as beautiful as I thought it might. I like Alan Cummings a lot.

Bill, I agree with Char, Ms Feral is so lucky she has you as a guardian. I used to have a cat like her when we lived in Italy. His name was Salvatore (Sal va tor aye) and he was the parco cat. He would show up at my kitchen door and sun himself on the wall but didn't let us touch him like Ms Feral does for you.

Darla, Hope you feel better in the morning. Don't worry about the attendance bonus if you are sick. :grouphug:

Char, He's a sweetie, but likes to pretend he's not.

 to all.

Hi Bill - please don't send the coon anywhere else. We had one pestering our ducks, SIL live trapped it, but then killed it, and he and DD canned it - our cats LOVE it. Betty

02-14-2013, 07:37 PM
(for yesterday - sorry am a bit late)

I didn't get any cards but that's not unusual.......lol but DB John bought me and Mum a single red rose - he is a big softie really. Wished my DS Jamie a happy Valentine's day and he texted me back with the word........STALKER!!! I give up on that boy.

Jackie - Jackie - Jackie - woohooo - welcome back - great to see you here   - sorry to hear about your rough times.

Well the snow was completely gone this morning - yeahhhh - oh and it shows you how well I sleep - when I looked out of the window next doors trees had been cropped from about 12 feet to 6 feet - I never heard a thing......lol.

Re nuisance phone calls - I always use the ...hang on a minute .....then leave them hanging for five mins - sometimes they ring me back though.....lol.

Nothing much happening here in Brogan Towers - am doing some genealogy for a friend - well more her grandad's army records although I don't really know what she wants me to find as she has already got the records from the archives. So am researching the regiments her grandfather was in and were they were during the war.

Allan - good luck with your surgery - love you too.

Oh need to go - SWMBO is shouting me - probably wants a cake.....lol.

Sending love and hugs all around

Don't they have mud on mountain tracks?
