Hello WC,
Iíve been lurking in the watercolor forum for a while now and figured Iíd better introduce myself. I enjoy painting in water color and have a self-taught background. I do have some help from genetics, thanks to my motherís side of the family, with a great uncle who was an accomplishing oil painter.

Anyway, I enjoy the content and advice given here (Iíll take any advice I can get) and I hope to provide some content of my own and learn athing or two (or a lot) along the way.

Hi Matt, welcome to Wet Canvas and the Watercolor forums and you will find that you are in good company when it comes to people who are largely self taught, which would be probably a majority here. As you go along it is useful to find someone to give lessons, even at a small local level, as it is a real help to simply watch another artist do a painting (how they organize their palette, how much water they use to mix, what they do with wet into wet etc. etc.)

Being a compulsive sort, however, I can't help trying to get you to join the water color light fast test work that we are starting here. The key threads are:

Threads for participating in the World Wide Watercolor Test Program

Preparing test sheets:

Discussions about the test program, paints, and general progress

Registration thread: this is where you
if you want to post an image of your test page that is fine too. The Registration thread is a sticky thread up at the top of the page:
