Hey Michael...

I can see now how the green seems to disappear after scanning. The face on this subject is definitely more green in the original. I can see where I made the mistake of not doing a complete charcoal rendering initially like you did on your wonderful piece. I'm a little reluctant to post this knowing close to nothing about true verdaccio but I just wanted to attempt an underpainting. I've never done one before. I'm looking forward to glazing in the colour.

Please forgive the unusual looking nose and ear. This is going to be a painting depicting a friend of mine who is big into mountainman reenacting. He HAS an unusual nose and ear...believe me. Maybe I should have flattered him a little. He's already self conscious about his nose as it is. I thought if I were to change it, he might take offense. This piece was scanned in two pieces and some streaking is obvious. I manipulated it in my image software to attempt to bring it in closer to the original but it really is a poor representation. I'll try and post this from time to time to show its progress.

beautiful so far IMO. I think staying true to his features is the way to go. I love the character of his face. Can't wait to see the progression.

ZOTMA...

He's a character all right! I work with this guy. If he had his way, he would transport back to that time period and just dissapear into the hills. I remember how he told me the time he was on his father's farm out hunting in the woods and mountains of West Virginia. He was wearing his usual garb but this time, he was wearing a "loin cloth" and his buckskin leggings standing on a rock high up on a ridge when two hunters came along in their more modern attire. My friend said he stood still as the two hunters looked up from below and seen him standing there with an early morning mist all around him. They departed the area in a very "swift" manner...as if they had seen a "ghost". HA! I bet them two are still telling the story!

Thanks for your comments...

Mr. Camp,

Your paintings are beautiful, and inspiring. I visited your website and am truly impressed by your work. This current painting of your buddy here *ROCKS* also. I just started painting a few weeks ago in alkyds, I still can't figure out how to "blend" my colors together for a smooth gradience for realistic tones, how do you do it? Anyways, Your work is truly inspirational.

IllLogic.
