This is acrylic on a 12" x 16" canvas panel. I started with the background and haven't thought about a foreground yet.

So first starting with the idea of a construction site, here is the background. with a big yellow excavator descending into the lower half of the painting:

Next some added windows to the background, and then jungle-like shapes and lines added to the lower half:

And now some more abstract rubble and two people amidst the jungle:

So, are there any particular areas that you really like or that bother you? How is the composition, colors? I plan to edit and cover whatever may distract the eye too much, but want to keep any interesting details.

I also have to add in more details to the faces and hands. Do the anatomy and proportions look okay?

I want to add in some lighter highlights with a fine brush to tweak some of the details. Anything else needed?

Do I need more detail anywhere (like the background buildings?)

One specific problem is I want to make the farther person look more like their feet are touching the ground making them look like they are in the scene. Maybe I need a shadow or some rubble across him.

I really like the whimsical feel to this piece.

How is the composition, colors?

I am first drawn to the center where the movement is. I like the balance of colour but am having a hard time understanding the red mass in the middle of the rubbish. Love the greenery!

I also have to add in more details to the faces and hands. Do the anatomy and
proportions look okay?

I want to add in some lighter highlights with a fine brush to tweak some of the details. Anything else needed? Woman's right hand, red roof, windows, ledge and rubbish need tweaking. Love the detail in the crane!

Do I need more detail anywhere (like the background buildings?) I would personally use a ruler for the windows but it's your call.

One specific problem is I want to make the farther person look more like their
feet are touching the ground making them look like they are in the scene. Oh, is that the red mass in the center of the piece?

Maybe I need a shadow or some rubble across him.
Looking forward to seeing your progress. Have fun!

Thanks Levanty, "whimsical" is a desirable compliment.

...a hard time understanding the red mass in the middle of the rubbish.

Yeah, that is supposed to be a man crouching and extending his hand up. I'll work on bringing that out more.

I would personally use a ruler for the windows

I'm considering it. I kind of have an irrational aversion in that it somehow feels like cheating, but it would clean up the lines more.

red roof, windows, ledge and rubbish need tweaking

I'll work on these.

I did the face and hands and some more detail amidst the rubbish.
Here is one more update:

Nice work. Keep it up! I see him crouching now that you mention it. Maybe make his head larger and give him some blond hair to match the red girl.
