Good Morning all.
Well it is that time of night here again!!
Fog had lifted but looks mighty chilly out there, no plans for today at moment
Back more sensible time, hopefully
Has been a much cooler day, and another deluge of rain late afternoon.
But I'm not complaining...
Today Christchurch had it's 11,000th aftershock! (11,000th aftershock!)

Home maintenance day here. Tap washers needed changing. My housemate is doing them. I also bought two new taps for the kitchen. The ones I had were terrible, so hard to turn on.
Take a look at this video (http://static.video.qq.com/TPout.swf?auto=1&vid=r010673xh67). Mind blowing, that child must only be about 7 years old..
01-17-2013, 02:58 AM
Good morning all. Cold 0C here but dry so far.
Just got weighed after yesterday's double dinner day and I have put on 2 pounds  I'll have to cut down severely today. No biscuit at art class
Great talk last night about the persecution of local Catholic families in Lancashire in the 18th century. The speaker really brought history to life.
Not sure what to give the class today, I'll dig out one of my old paintings and challenge them to do it.
Still having trouble with my d's
01-17-2013, 03:06 AM
Lulu, I wouldn't be complaining either  Not that it's happening here. Another beautiful day in Paradise. Will be more of them for the next week or so. I've learned that a few showers predicted means nothing. Virga rain. nothing.
(If it wasn't so dry I would say that today was splendid. Not too hot. lovely cool breeze. Just add water and it would be splendidly perfect)
JJ ... Ahhhh ... Plumbing.
Nipper, Jack de Crow is in Germany now
Edit Hi Doug.

Good monring washers
Hi Geoff, Lulu, JJ, Doug and Annie
Just passing the computer real quickly on my way to kitchen to feed Louie - he is sitting next to me, tapping his foot, impatiently waiting for me to move it along. That minor case of sniffles has turned into a full blown cold, and seems to be settling into my chest. I spent all of yesterday in bed, sleeping - actually, doped to the gills -- and plan to go right back there after I deal with my sweet little grey ghost.
Cheers to all, catch ya later.
Not much sleeping here. Will be warm and a few showers here today. Not much rain here...but winter is the dry season.
We saw "Silver Linings Playbook" yesterday, best film I've seen in a long time.
Only a few more hours and we can go for our breakfast cortadito and pastry. You have to have some food vices.
Congratulations, Annie, on your 9000th post.
01-17-2013, 05:03 AM
Right..a more sensible time and what a lovely morning here too....
The fog/frost has left some lovely hoar frost around......no way
am I going outside to photograph it..but here are some that I took at the front and then back of the bungalow....
This is view down the street past the pub......
Across front garden.
The rising sun over the caravan,

Golly Karl !!! did I really ?  Roger says I spend way too much time online. Only after I have cooked an indifferent but totally tasty dinner. Online is better than Top Gear. So Says the woman. No one is listening.
QI witch is blaring forth. Sleep beckons .. Cannot stand the programme.
01-17-2013, 05:08 AM
Thanks Karl. 9002. I am not that old?
Geoff, cold, freezing and not attractive at all. I prefer the water thawed. :) Or the water ..
01-17-2013, 05:33 AM
Hello all of you, hope you are well. I'm a bit sorry not to come more often but ... anyway no excuse.
We'll get snow soon I think around here and maybe I will try to paint something plein air on saturday, there is a sketch crawl session, hoping only roads would not be covered with ice.
Lovely picture Geof, the second or third one tempt me about painting.
01-17-2013, 05:45 AM
Gorgeous photos Geoff!!!!!
Ellen in Ont
01-17-2013, 06:27 AM
Getting ready to dash out the door to work. The windchill warning has been lifted because it is only -39 right now. I got out my down coat to wear anyway. The high today is supposed to reach -21.
Have a great day everyone.
01-17-2013, 07:21 AM
Good Day all,
Doug, I'm sure any of your paintings would be a delightful challenge for your students.
Geoff, love the photos. Reminds me of my visit to your lovely village.
Annie, I'm right behind you for time on the computer, but I'll let you keep the lead.
I just ate an old serving bag of Alpen I brought home from England two years ago. It was still good and I wish I could get it over here without paying a fortune for it.
Coffee cup needs refilling,
01-17-2013, 07:34 AM
Looks c-c-cold over there Geoff.
Ellen -36
Hi Bill, after they enjoyed the Amish painting I challenge them with two policemen I saw chatting in Novi MI on the 4th July parade. They have all made a good start. Had they not done the Amish painting I think they would have been afraid to attempt this.
01-17-2013, 07:59 AM
Chilly start gor the deep south, 41 now and dropping. It might even snow in he** today. 4 hours of sleep will have to do. Work to do.
I must find something for the next painting. Maybe I'll crawl inti the RIL during break.
Have a good day all!
01-17-2013, 08:24 AM
Good Morning Everyone!!!
Doesn't look as if there will be any sunshine today but forecast says there will. -6C with windchill of -14C.
Nothing much planned for the day, might use up one of my free gym visits.
Geoff, sun shining on hoar frost is just about the prettiest sight there is.
Beautiful photos, thank you!!!!
JJ, that video shows you what kids are capable of!!! Quite amazing!! Hope your tap exchange goes smoothly.
Lulu, Christchurch must be shaking most of the time:eek: Don't know how they can call 11,000 aftershocks, I'd just call them 11,000 earthquakes.
Doris, sorry you couldn't escape the heavier version of that cold/flu, get better quickly!!!
Doug, 2 lbs isn't too bad, can be reversed fairly quickly. It really is too bad, everything that is delicious is a NO NO as we get older, if not for the weight then for the colesterol etc. I wonder how Kev is doing with his diet.
Phillipe, Annie, Caryl, Bill, Ellen, Karl, to you and all yet to come!!!
All of you who are not well, get better quickly!!!
01-17-2013, 08:59 AM
Hello one and all,
It's another sunny morning here but still COLD. It's not supposed to warm up anytime soon either.
I've put on weight too Doug, and I must lose some. I started back to walking on my treadmill in the evening. I watch the evening news while I'm walking; that makes the time go faster. I'd re-join weight watchers but don't want to spend the money. I have all the information about it anyway; it's not like I don't know WHY I've gained weight...I just need to get motivated to take it off. Both Larry and I need to.
I spend too much time online too; but I have access to it all day long at work, but in the evenings I don't like to get on as much. I'd rather be painting. I didn't get a chance to paint last night but hoping to tonight for just a bit.
Annie, I sure hope you get some rain soon.
(((DORIS)))) so sorry you are under the weather. Stay abed and get better soon.
Geoff, wow now that is some hoar frost! BEAUTIFUL pics.
It's that time of year when we must gather all our tax "stuff" for filing our Income Taxes. We have ours all ready and will take it in to get it done; we used to do it ourselves but the tax companies are up on all the new laws and it's just easier.
JJ, that child is AMAZING in operating that piece of heavy equipment!
Doug, I like that ref pic of the Amish Dad and his son, I still want to give it a go. The two policemen talking is a good one too; for learning to draw figures and their limb placements and all.
Stay warm Caryl,
Larry works with a guy who had a spell at work the other day and is now in hospital and they aren't sure what's wrong. He keeps having seizures. He's only 35 yrs old. And another guy he works with has a BIl who dropped dead in his 30's from a brain aneurysm!
I hope you all make it a great day and are able to do something creative with it.
01-17-2013, 09:06 AM
Good morning Washers... Our weather is stalled at grey and chilly... no snow... no wind... no sun... How I long for a little skiff of snow... or better yet, Spring!!!
The kitty herd has been fed and watered. Husband has been fed and caffeinated... Son is getting ready for work at the StupidStore... the excitement is neverending!
I plan to work on my third poppy today in the hope of getting it finished. I also need to work up a couple of exercises to demo next week at the Centre. And, I didn't even get my own piece started. I think that it may be unnecessary for me to actually demo a painting during this Session.
Geoff, your hoar frost photos are so beautiful... I have a few similar ones taken last year, thinking I could use them as references. The problem is that I'm never quite sure how to even begin to recreate that crystallized shimmer!
Oh my gosh, Lulu... has all this affected the housing market negatively?
JJ... every little boy on the planet would love to be doing exactly that!!!
Doug, your History is so rich and interesting. I never tire of reading about it and I'd love to be able to hear lectures on the subject. about one day's meals causing you to gain 2 lbs. Those were BIG dinners!
Hi 9002 Annie, ((Doris)) and Karl at breakfast...
Hi Philippe hoping to paint and Ellen hoping to stay warm...
Caryl, you have SO many of your own photos in the RIL, how can you lack for anything to paint??? :)
Hi Uschi... how wonderful that you can walk for some amount of time on the treadmill!
Sheesh Darla... you said the "T" word! *shudder* I'm sorry about Larry's coworkers...
I haven't had breakfast yet, so will make some oatmeal and blueberries... we've taken to drinking hot lemon water in the morning and I'll get mine made while my cereal cooks... I hope that everyone has the very best possible day... creative, healthy (OMG, no more flu) and happy!
01-17-2013, 09:19 AM
 Good day all!! still grey here too, Uschi, I hope you are right, the sun chases the winter blues away :) I am off to the gallery this aft, so can read my book this morning.....
Super shots, Geoff! We haven't had any hoarfrost this year, makes everything like a fairy land.
That looks like a good challenge, Doug.
I hope you are really on the mend now, Caryl.
I would love to paint the frost too, Char, but I think that is a photo subject and not a painting one, for me at least!
Amazing video, JJ, he looks so competent!
Hi Darla, Lulu, Karl, Philippe, Ellen ( the cold!), Bill, and all to come, hope you have a rewarding day
:grouphug:  :grouphug:
01-17-2013, 10:47 AM
Thanks for comments on hoar frost...like you Char I just wouldn't know where to start on painting it......it disappeared from village before noon but after lunch we went intpo Thirsk and it was still on the trees there.
BBC did part of their weather forecast from the top of Sutton Bank today, this is just up the road from here and showed the snowy fields very well.
It has actually started snowing again but only lightly..
JudyL...my Yorkshire magazine features Knaresborough this month and the Tour de France will also get to call in there...along with Kettlewell which many of you know.
01-17-2013, 11:18 AM
Good Morning all,
It is quarter after 11 a.m. here in chilly Oakwood. Lots of clouds in the sky, but a little bit of blue is peeking through here and there.
I want to share the absolutely breathtaking sunset we enjoyed last night. I don't think I've ever seen one quite so bright. These are totally untouched photos except for cropping and resizing, no color adjustment at all.
and another showing more blue and purple mixed with the red. Loved the silhouettes of the trees in front of it.
Your hoar frost photos are gorgeous too. I tried taking photos of a tree like that once and it just didn't show the beauty the way yours does.
I like that photo you are having your students try. The contrast of colors in their uniforms and the shadows are going to be fun for them to paint.
Have you thought of doing a rain dance????
Lulu, on all those aftershocks. Poor people are probably getting pretty tired of them by now, eh. ;)
 to all who were here before me. Gotta get back to revising my lesson plans for the Beginners' Class I hope to teach in March.
01-17-2013, 12:21 PM
Sylvia......those are great..........sky on fire!
Have had a bit of a cold snap - only 13C first thing this morning, and only reaching 20C. I couldn't manage minus temps at all!
Lovely snow pics, and I love the sunset pics Sylvia! fabulous!
I think the people of Christchurch (at least those who stayed) are getting pretty immune to the 'aftershocks' now, anything under 4 they don't seem too bothered. Yes, I would say the housing market there has definitely been affected, but there is still quite an area of Christchurch not affected at all.
There are still people moving to live there.
But because of what happened our housing insurance for all the country has gone up considerably.
Time online.........am cutting back considerably, but I still like my daily meeting at the Wash(ing) line:D
Better go and get breakfast:wave:
01-17-2013, 02:46 PM
Wow Henry that sound serious. Any idea what the infection is?
Hope the next course gets a grip on the infection.
01-17-2013, 02:49 PM
Hi to All
Geoff and Sylvia...super photos, Geoff. yours difficult to paint, Sylvia, yours can :)
Just back from the doc, lung infection still there, now on a third course of anti biotics, chest X ray tomorrow at hospital, BP raised and weight down 14 Ibs. Feet were swelling now, on water pills....it never ends! I think I would fail a medical for the Royal Marines :D I tried to join when I was 17 but failed due to an ear problem
Finishing a painting off tonight, will post in gallery when done
01-17-2013, 02:54 PM
Wow Henry you are in a mess amigo! (((((((((((((((((((()))))))))))))))))))
Getting misty again so may be something nice to photograph again in morning......
Read the link thread about News Letter by e-mail...........first I had heard of it.
01-17-2013, 02:58 PM
Henry my reply is posted before your post!!!
01-17-2013, 02:59 PM
It has happened again
01-17-2013, 03:01 PM
Doug, I have to take a sample of spit to the doc tomorrow to determine what culture it is
01-17-2013, 03:01 PM
Something is wrong with the wetcanvas database clock - posts are appearing out of order  I posted this and my previous post after your "spit" post.
01-17-2013, 03:18 PM
((Henry)) I sure hope this all gets cleared up!
Doug, what's going on with the site now?? Scary...
Sylvia, what absolutely breathtaking sky photos!
I'm trying to cut back my time online, too, Lulu... it gets pretty addictive to just browse from site to site...
I've made up some boxes of quarter cards to take into the Gallery... it was a lot of fun and I hope they sell!
I didn't paint, but I'm getting my stuff out now (it was still packed up from yesterday's Class at the Centre)...
01-17-2013, 03:25 PM
Vacation is over! We are at the airport waiting to board. The Monte Carlo does treat all their guests like royalty. We used the bell hop, and went to the front of the line for a taxi! DH and I had the best vacation ever. We really relaxed and enjoyed ourselves.
Henry, hope you get well soon.
Hello to everyone. At least I do not go back to work until Tuesday.
01-17-2013, 03:44 PM
(((Henry))) surely hope it all clears up for you.
Char, what are quarter cards? Quarter sheets? 25 cent cards? Are they prints?
Sylvia, beautiful sundown photos. We had a similar sundown, sure was beautiful. Red sky at night, sailors delight.
01-17-2013, 04:04 PM
I have noticed the odd quantum leap avfew times this past week where the questions are answered before they are given.....rather like the Two Ronnies sketch!!
Good night all, a bath a pint of tea and a crossword beckons!
01-17-2013, 04:08 PM
(((HENRY))) I'll be praying that they can find a medication that will knock that nasty lung infection right out. Do rest all you can.:grouphug:
Sylvia, WOW those pics are sure beautiful. I wonder if you'll get a repeat tonight?
Doug, what the heck is going on here now? How weird is that when your post posts BEFORE Henry's?? Hmm...makes one wonder what other things are going on.:(
Only an hour left here and then I can head home. THe nights are staying lighter everyday but it's still getting dark when I get home.
Larry and I have been putting off doing the other sofa/loveseat. I think we'd best tackle it soon. This one should go easier.
Josh got us Detroit Redwing Hockey tickets for when he will be at the Detroit convention. We'll drive over and attend a game with him. Sometime in February I think. Then Larry wants to go down to Nashville to see another game sometime in April. I tell him how are we supposed to save money for our trip when you want to attend all these games?
Have a great evening:wave:
01-17-2013, 04:34 PM
He** has officially frozen over, which means winter is done in the DEEP South. Winter lasted three minutes and the temps are already rising into the 40s. LOL Winter is over! Phew. I had to put on socks it got so chilly! OC we are still wearing shorts though!
YUP that's SNOW.
01-17-2013, 04:38 PM
Hi again washers,
Back to feed Louie again, cant do that without passing office area and HUGE new monitor, so here I am.
Not feeling much better, so I will just say hello to all, hugs for those who are ailing and cheers    for those doing well.
And kudos for Geoff's idyllic English village and Sylvia's fire sky.
And so to bed. . . .
01-17-2013, 04:45 PM
Thanks everyone for your kindness, I'm sure the pills will do the trick eventually.
Doug, I'm going to ask WC for tomorrows lottery numbers!
01-17-2013, 05:14 PM
We did have sun in the morning, it left us around noon and ever since it has been trying to snow.
I almost forgot that I had an appointment for ultrasound for peripheral arteries. I am not looking forward to what this specialist will have to say at the end of the month. I think 54 years of smoking is raising its ugly head:rolleyes:
((((((((Henry)))))))) I am so sorry to read that your infection still hasn't improved.:crossfingers: :crossfingers: for very quick reversal!!
Sylvia, WOW, what a GORGEOUS sky!!!!!
Darla, upholstering the second love seat will be easier but you will be less motivated because the curiosity is gone since you already know what it looks like:)
Char, I too am curious, did you print or paint the cards??? Either way :crossfingers: for sales.
Nancy, you sound soooo happy!!!!!
 to all!!!!
01-17-2013, 05:19 PM
Doug, I have to take a sample of spit to the doc tomorrow to determine what culture it is
French? Italian? Albanian?
Hope you feel better soon :( Lung issues are terrible!
01-17-2013, 05:27 PM
Winter is definitely not gone here, just walked home in -7C (feels like -12 with the wind chill) and I think I need to get another down coat, this one is compressed enough that it isn't as warm as it was. Luckily the bus was coming so I got my 2 stop lift  The snow is gently drifting down, rather pretty if you are looking out at it
Sorry to hear that, Henry, :crossfingers: for a quick resolution.
The site is strange, Doug, I noticed this morning that the post count is not coming up right....we noticed that Annie had passed the 9000 mark, to 9002, but her next two posts didn't increase the number, is that the way it usually works?
Gorgeous sky, Sylvia!
01-17-2013, 06:15 PM
Aaaaah my new taps and new washers on the others taps are a dream!!!!! Life is good. Now, just to get a hose clamp, to attach the hose to the tap system (It is a timer) for my drip system to the herbs.
Oh, Bill. Remember that one lowly tomato, that no-one else could see, on my bush. Well I went to pick it a couple of days ago, and some critter had beaten me to it.. The bird wire at the back of the garden, the fence for the cat enclosure, is big. A bandicoot or a rat sized critter can get through easily, and they did.
Just back from the doc, lung infection still there, now on a third course of anti biotics, chest X ray tomorrow at hospital, BP raised and weight down 14 Ibs. Feet were swelling now, on water pills....it never ends! I think I would fail a medical for the Royal Marines :D I tried to join when I was 17 but failed due to an ear problem:grouphug:  :grouphug:
Nancy, great that you had a super vacation, and that you were treated like a Queen!!
Sylvia, what an amazing sunset.
Darla, this loveseat will be a breeze, you are experienced now.
Caryl, :) at your snow video.
Lynn, I could spend hours watching the snow fall. I would prefer to be out in it, with my mouth open and head tipped back. :D
I have a coffee here, then I am of fto the garden centre for some more chard seedlings!!
01-17-2013, 06:27 PM
Caryl, we live in a multi cultural enviroment, it could be difficult to determine, but I'm hoping for Italian, I like pasta :D
01-17-2013, 07:24 PM
Are you coughing with any particular accent? :D
01-17-2013, 08:38 PM
Hi, long day not much to show for it, cleaning cupboards just to confuse the kids  not really.
Geoff, try and let me know what magazine, maybe I will be able to find it on line.
Are you coughing with any particular accent? :D

01-17-2013, 09:24 PM
Are you coughing with any particular accent? :D
I am... Canadian... with a sore throat! What the dickens is this about???
I hope your flight home is a nice smooth one, Nancy! How wonderful that you had such a great time!
Bill... My software prints two cards on one piece of 8.5 x 11" card stock. When they are cut and then folded, the design is 1/4 the size of that paper.
Darla, have the seat prices increased for Hockey tickets?
Henry, what fun if we could get those numbers!
Uschi, I'm just printing them... two cards per sheet of paper... I'm keeping the designs quite simple and I really like how they look. I just don't know what to charge for them.
Lynn, that weather system stayed well above us...
Sorry about your tomato, JJ... but glad you like your taps...
 Judy and Lulu...
I'm going to take some cold meds and head off to bed... G'nite everyone!
01-17-2013, 11:40 PM
JJ, I hope you fixed the fence. I want you to enjoy those Russian tomatoes.
Good night all,
