Just helping Geoff out.........:p

Good day, gym then coffee with gym buddies, home to paint and garden, transplanting summer flowering annuals. I put the hose on them afterwards........then down came the rain!

(((Judy))) I dread the thought of losing any of my sisters. I am the youngest of four.

Hugs to anyone else who needs them too.

Hello all!

We left at noon, and just now got back to our hotel. We walked down one side and back up the other side. It would not be so bad, but it is in the 30s all day today. As Vegas goes, it is not very crowded.

Lulu, so glad you got rain. Hope Annie and JJ get some, too!

Just resting before we head back down to the casino.:D

Morning Ladies and all to follow,,,

Thanks Lulu!

Snowed again in last couple of hours but nothing horrendous by the looks of it.

In an hour have to go to Teesside to go in the ambulance with my Mother for review of last weeks operations She is last of 7 and has lived longer than any of them......

Overcast, but no rain.

Thank you for all the hugs. I got a phone call this afternoon, from the Logan Hospital imaging centre. I have an appointment for the MRI Thursday 25th January. Yay.. I think. I am a little claustrophobic, but I can handle it. With all these imagings done, I am going to glow in the dark. Actually, I find it quite worrisome.

Geoff, snow photos. I can't believe, I forgot to start my Snow Thread this winter.. Good luck with your mother..

I went shopping at Coles, earlier, to get some fresh meat for supper. I bought turkey breasts. Got home, opened the package and peuw!!!!! They were not past their use by date, that was the 18th. They were not on special either, coat me $12.50 So, I took them back.
The store manager assured me that they do regular checks on their freezing equipment, including their trucks. I said, nicely, that something was working as it should be though. He refunded my money, and gave me refund vouchers to the value of $6.00 for the petrol I used having to go back to the store and back home again. Nice of him.
I am having a flathead fillet for supper now :D

Hope your mother is on course for recovery Geoff and the effects of the anaesthetic have worn off.

Good news on the appointment JJ, hope it leas to a fix for that ankle.

Hi all.

Cloudy, cool and dry. Dull and dry. We would welcome any moisture. Listening to the party folks above. Sulphur crested cockatoos. All is quiet if you can hear the silence.

JJ, after Christmas sales ... Welcome to the salmonella express. Glad you took them back. BTW did you see any hot cross buns that are appearing now? Forget Valentines day, Easter is coming

Got to go. second sis is ringing to be rude to me.

Hi Nancy, yes we've had a good rain

Your mother is from a large family Geoff, do you have lots of cousins?

Actually, speaking of large families.........John's nephew and his wife are expecting their 7th in March! They currently have 5 boys and one girl, two of the boys are twins.
Babies babies everywhere........something in the water down here......

JJ, I hope you get some resolution too with your ankle. Has anything more been said about you wearing an air boot?
I know you are to have an MRI, but whenever I hear of anyone having had a CT (CAT) scan, I have to smile, remembering trying to keep a straight face when an elderly lady told me she was to have a dog scan......

Hi Doug

Annie, your lady painting in the gouache thread is fabulous!

Took a pic of the fur-kids eating their supper.......Gary with minced fresh lamb while 'Falfa preferred Whiskas! lol
Don't you like the 'togetherness' of the tails?

Thing is that after they will reverse places Lulu, and scoff the others leftovers.

Cat scans? Done it! both are inside and fed.

Now JJ of the magnetic variety ?

Sis was rude to me and I to her. We love each other. Ended the conversation with "that's enough of cooking OK? I did it last night" Love you sis, said I. Genetics ?

Speaking of cooking, best be off

I told him, that I was unable to purchase a compression boot, like he suggested, and he said, "I never told you to get one of those." Shaking my head. :( He said what did you get?" I said "an ankle support, with rigid sides." I am smiling too, at your elderly lady. I love your photo of the furkids.

Good morning washers,

Lulu, glad the rains finally came. Gary and Alfalfa are too cute with the tails like that.

Nancy, it sounds like you are really enjoying L.V. I'm glad to hear that. I have never been there, only to Tahoe which is a wee tiny sampling, I think.

JJ - i am so sorry to hear all your problems with that pesky ankle, and I think it may be time for you to dump that doctor. Do you have that choice?

Hi Doug.
Geoff - I am sorry to hear about your mom. Sending good thoughts to you and her.

Annie, I am so glad you are enjoying his work. Pes always has a little surprise in the endings, like that poor cat or the broken guacamole cracker and dip on the thumb - just like us. Incidentally, he is a sweet, charming, warm and friendly guy - which makes this honor twice as worthy. i'm glad you are enjoying him.

Mornin' each .......

Sorry I haven't been around for a couple of days but got involved with something that has taken my time ....... anyway I'm back now ......... and full of a cold with lots of sneezing so plenty of tissues at the ready. I can see Man Flu lurking around the corner ......

It's been snowing here but not enough to stick fortunately because I dare not go out in the slippery conditions, would hate to think what would happen to me if I fell right now.

Two friends of mine died over the Christmas period it took an age for the funerals to take place and both happened last week, it was very sad. Tom who died on Christmas Eve was the founder member and organiser of our art group which meet every Tuesday in the small nearby village of Goosnargh.

Today we are meeting as a group for the first time since his death, part of the agenda is to discuss if the group can go on now without Tom at the helm. It would be sad to see the demise of the group but for most part many of the small membership only attend the meetings due to their relationship they had with Tom. We have tried our best to attract new members over the past few years but to no avail, Tom and his friends were the glue that held us together so it may be that if we can't get the assurances of Tom's friends to remain in the group then we may have to close ...... it will be a sad day, but without numbers we just can't afford the venue..............

Oh well the sun has just come out and I'm going to check if it's OK to take Toby out for a walk .. seeya ......

Good Day All,
Been up for three hours and am about to return to bed for my nap.

It is -11 C here. That's 11 F. COLD, COLD, COLD!!!

Ms. Feral stays on her warm pad in her insulated box with heated water dish. Plenty of food in her bowl. All outdoor cats should have it so good. Do wish, though, she would come into the house and let me close the door.

I'm thinking about buying a Nook ereader. Does anyone outside of the U.S.
own one?

Lulu, your cats get lamb?

JJ, I love to eat fish, at least twice a week, and definitely insist on fresh or frozen fresh.

Kev, too bad about your art friends passing. Maybe a publicized drive for membership would work.

Later,
Bill

Hi Bill. I have a Kindle Paperwhite and I am happy with it. The http://mashable.com/2012/12/13/kindle-vs-nook-ereaders/ gets reasonable reports but is not as good but is cheaper.

I like the Kindle because I have lots of books which can be read on the Kindle, ipad, laptop or Android tablet.

Happy Tuesday all;

It's CCCCOLD out there this morning...frosty for sure. We got another light dusting last night but the roads were clear driving into work.

Larry and I had a quiet evening last night watching a couple of sit-coms on TV, called my Mom and she wasn't home(?); talked to Josh about our trip; did some researching on the net.

Larry has been working just 8 hour days instead of the 10 they had been working. He said he's expecting them to "gear up" and then he'll be back to those long days and possibly working weekends. Poor guy.

Annie, glad you had a nice talk with your sister even if you aggravated each other.:D

((JJ)) I'm glad you finally got an appointment but an air boot would have been nice for your ankle. GRR...those doctors. I'm also glad you took back those turkey breasts!

LuLU, nice pic of Gary and 'Falfa. Funny how they eat seperate things. Glad you got some rain.

(((KEV))) I'm so sorry about the loss of your two friends over the Christmas break. What a dilema about your art group; maybe it's best though for you to end it if you cannot get the majority to see a reason to keep it. I hope you enjoyed your walk with Toby.

Geoff, I hope your discussion about your Mothers condition goes smoothly.

Nancy, 30F in Vegas?? Brr...you must have had a COLD walk!

Doug, I'm glad you are enjoying drawing on your i-pad. It is good for hand/eye coordination!

Doris, I had a look at that particular video too  Have a great day.

Bill, the kids wanted to buy me an e-reader for Christmas but I like to hold a book in my hands; I love the smell of them, feel of their bindings and covers, love turning the pages, etc. I'm not saying that someday I won't get one but I'd hate to see REAL books disappear. Where I work (for a magazine agency; we sell magazine subscriptions; we are www.Magazineline.com if you'd like to check us out; although we only sell in the USA) some of the magazines are going digital and many of our customers aren't happy about it. They like the paper kind; especially older folks who aren't computer literate. It's a good think that Ms Feral has that heating blanket...brr.

Well I have lots of work to do today so I best not linger,

Enjoy your day everyone.

 Good day all!!! lovely sun here, hovering around 0C so I will walk today. Just got the last book (14th) in the Robert Jordan/Brandon Sanderson 'Wheel of Time' series. I've been following it for the last ? 15 years, and it gets more and more complex, but wonderful to lose yourself in! Fantasy, something that Jana would have enjoyed illustrating, more imaginatively I'm sure than the pics they have used. Decided I'd better read #13 again so I'm up to speed for the new one.....so not much of a productive nature out of me today, maybe the dishes, though (Uschi :))

I didn't paint yesterday either, Kay, but it will still be waiting for me tomorrow. Glad your family liked their presents, how could they not!

A shame about Larry's long hours, Darla, pretty exhausting to do that every day. People doing 12 hr shifts don't have to do it every day..... I agree, I like a real book too, way back in one branch of my family we were publishers and I still have some of the books they made.

Hope you are feeling better Doris.

Sweet kitty picture, Lulu!

Hi Nancy, Doug, Bill, Kev (hope you got your walk), JJ, Annie (hot cross buns here too  ), Geoff, and all to come......have a rewarding day

Good morning,

Yes, it was a very cold walk. We cheated by casino hopping along the way. My legs are red from the jeans rubbing against them.

Bill, Ms. Feral has the best of both worlds. You are taking care of her, but she still has her freedom. I have a Nook, but I use my iPad instead. I gave a Nook color that my mother did not want to my daughter who is using the Internet features. The iPad allows you to use all the eBook providers.

JJ, I bet the turkey went for a walk around the store and a customer changed their mind. Left it lying somewhere until it was noticed by an employee who returned it to the cooler.

Doris, there is only one Vegas. There are seven miles of casinos on the Strip. Then you can go Downtown where the slots are a little looser. We will be going today.

DH is still sleeping. I will catch up on the news of the day.

Good Afternoon Everyone!

WOW, what happened, no posts for three hours????

Bright sunshine, no wind, LOVELY day!!

I ventured off to Good Life for my first (of five) free sessions. Had the lovely young woman explain to me how to work a couple of the machines. What I was mostly interested in is the treadmill. It is kind of stupid to pay all this money for a treadmill, but, during my stress test I found out that I can actually walk on it.

The Bicep Femoris muscle in my hip and knee (the one that was messed up with the hip replacement) still hurts too much for me to walk longer than 5 minutes. I found out during the stress test that if I hold on to the side bars it takes some of the weight off the hip and I can walk. So today I tried it in the gym and I walked non-stop for 1/2 an hour. Unheard of, I am thrilled!!!!

Nancy :crossfingers: for more good luck on the machines.

Lynn, looks like we are both walking!!! My eating habits are pretty good anyway so no changes there. Now wouldn't it be nice if all of this exercise and good eating would tighten loose skin:lol:

Kev, I too am sorry about the loss of your friends. As to the art group, maybe you can do it in each others homes. Also quite often the public library have rooms that might be cheaper or even free.

Talking about loss of friends, the 58 year old guy who had the heart attack a few days ago was back at table tennis. Turns out he didn't have a heart attack but his heart stopped five times, he was actually dead several times. So now he has a Pacemaker and all is well again:rolleyes:

Darla, so you are never at a loss for reading materials:) Poor Larry, those are long days.

Bill, Ms. Feral is spoiled rotten!! No motivation there for her to stay inside LOL

JJ, the MRI should show it all. Don't forget to ask for the actual report they are sending on to your doctor, that way YOU know for sure what is going on and can take the appropriate steps if your doctor doesn't. YUCK about the rotten meat.

Annie and Lulu, I loved reading about the fun relationship you have with your sisters!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mine is 9 years younger than I am and I left Austria when she was 10, so although we like each other we never really built that close sisterhood friendship.

Lulu, lovely photo!!! How many more sleeps????

Thinking of our friends who are not well and sending best wishes. Doug, Doris, Geoff  to you!!!!

Thanks, Doug, Darla and Nancy for your advice. One reason I am looking at the Nook is it is easier to hold lying down. I, too, love the feel of a real book and I have enough of them to prove it, but my arthritis is making that more difficult. The lighter e-reader is much more practical.
I've read some more recent reviews on both, and they're pretty much a draw. I'll probably wait for an update of either one. I realize the Kindle can be read on other devices, but the glare of those devices like the computer or iPad is stressful on my cataract eyes. I presently have a Kobo, which I enjoy, but it does not offer the specials and library services available through Kindle and Nook; and I'm afraid they are too small of a company to keep up.

Good afternoon! My Students are all homeward bound and I have a few minutes before thinking about putting dinner on... The sun shone for awhile today, cheering up the otherwise brown and grey vista...

It's nice not having to rush out the door this evening... My Class at the Centre is tomorrow afternoon... We're going to be concentrating on Shadows... Also, this is an Intermediate Class so I won't have to explain any of the basics to get us started.

I was quite surprised to see how few posts have been made in today's Wash! I thought for sure I'd be trailing on page two or three... :)

((Judy)) I don't have words sufficiently adequate to articulate how sad I feel for you and your Sister... All I can say is that you're in my prayers...

I have read everyone's posts, but I'm just too tired to reply... shame on me, I know... I hope you have an excellent evening/morning...

I decided I better slog on and get some work done before posting here. So far dishes done, one load of laundry and vocal warm up. I have to work on a song for an audition then maybe a walk.

Don't have time to reply to everyone so I'll say what Uschi said.

Evening all.......

Only arrived home an hour ago so have hit the vegetable soup and a cheese and ham toastie...very nice.

Ambulance delayed because of heavy snow so we got to hospital 30 minutes late but they had stopped back just to do Mothers dressings, then the patient ambulance driver returned, out of turn I suspect, to bring us back to the home....

Opinion,in the home, is that her 'confused situation' is probably permanent now and any effects of her GA have already worn off.......anyway we have arranged for a Liasion Officer specialising in aftercare for dementia in its various forms to casually visit next week as she is in a position to request certain treatments/drugs from her GP.... we shall see.

Most of the snow locally has gone but what is left is frozen hard and it is foggy, very foggy, tonight.........

Geoff Huge hugs to you and your Mum.

Uschi, I am so glad the treadmill works for you. Enjoy your exercise!!

Char, rest!

Bill, have you thought of getting an android tablet to read your books on. I had a Nook, but didn't like it myself, and I didn't like that I was limited to where I purchased books. With my tablet, I can read epub, and pdf books. I also can do other things on it, making it value for money, and it is comfortable to hold to read with. (My hands ache too) At present, I am reading a real book. Clive Custlers latest I recline on the sofa, with a pillow on my lap, and the book rests on that..

Just re-reading the Wash, in bed.

Whilst my Mother was the youngest of 7 children there were no hugh families thereafter, in fact there were only 10 cousins of which 2 have already passed on . it isn't a specially close family and most of us don't even exchange Christmas and certainly not Birthday cards! But there isn't any family disharmoney just a degree of separation!

Our local town just mentioned on TV weather as being -6C at 6pm and expected to drop another 6 by dawn.

Goodnight all

Geoff, am sorry about your mother's confused state, do you think it was accelerated by the anaesthesia and surgery?

Yes, Bill, our cats get lamb, we grow it!
