I traveled to Wrightsville Beach this past weekend, a favorite place of mine to visit. It is one of North Carolina's barrier islands. Unseasonably warm all weekend, so I sketched outside in comfortable Spring-like weather!

The first sketch is graphite. All the others are graphite and ink. All were done on site in my sketchbook. (8 1/2" X 11").

"Wrightsville Beach Dawning":

"Late Afternoon Behind the Dunes":

"Little Tree Behind the Dunes":

"Carolina Temple Cottage Inn"

Those are great. . . I especially love that inn. Beautiful. I believe I have visited that area when I was a child. . . we stayed in Wilmington, NC for several weeks.

I really like the cottage inn. The lattice work and wood in the steps, porch and house looks really great!

Wonderful! My wife and I celebrated our honeymoon camping out on the Outer Banks. (The camping part is a dead giveaway that we had very little money at the time, having just graduated from college.) My favorite of the group is the architectural piece.

So this brought back some memories for you. The Outer Banks of NC is beautiful. Not all of it is protected from development, so it has probably changed much since your honeymoon days.
Thanks for you kudos. I really enjoy analyzing perspective and structure when drawing architectural subjects.

Lovely sketches. I love to paint at the coast and spent many hours sketching in similar venues along the north Norfolk coastline, our nearest coast.

I love the way you drew the background behind the tree

I thought I had commented on this yesterday. ?? In any case, I love the beach sketches, esp. the one with the dune grassses, and the sketch of the inn is just lovely.

Vivien: Thanks! I can tell that you enjoy coastal scenes as much as I do form seeing your wonderful creations.
friesin: Sometimes, after I have been drawing for awhile, it seems as though I get into "the zone" of being more expressive with my marks and renderings... and I always like what I do then! Glad you like this one. It is a favorite on mine.
Jenny: Thank you!
Michelle: I appreciate your lovely comments. It seems like the inn is the favorite of this series!
