these are beautifully done. Just wish the background weren't so dark. I know it makes for a good contrast, but the flowers just look more delicate and fragile with a lighter bg, IMHO. Nice though, very nice. Have a friend in Vt. been trying to grow blue poppies for years and having no luck.

Thank you. I appreciate your comments. I have just started oil painting and this is my second painting, so I don't really have a clue yet about what I should be doing. I just used a photograph for reference and never thought to change the background. Again, thank you.

This is very good for only your second painting. You can be proud of it...

The composition is very good, as are the colors, and all the objects/shapes work well together. I like it.

I think you have captured these flowers to perfection ,A very nice composition, I must admit some ignorance , I didn't know that poppies came in a blue colour ,

Himalayan poppies, I believe. Very difficult to grow. Probably not easy to paint, either. Nicely done, especially as your second piece!

Yes, Himilayan - just so much easier to type "blue". :) Thank you.

Very good for your second painting.
I would darken the center of the flowers and the underside of the petals for shadows...should give more depth to the flowers. :)

Barkley - I think you have done a terrific job on these poppies. Bevahlee may well be right about the background but I have to say I like it dark. The flowers and their edges stand out wonderfully and the colours in the background (turquoise, dark blue and dark greens) I think are smashing!

Thanks to each of you! I am very new to WC but think it is going to be very helpful and enjoyable. I love the ability to receive feedback.
