View Full Version : 2012 WDE Hall of Fame

01-11-2013, 10:14 AM
We would like each participant to post ONE of your own images selected from all the WDEs you have done in 2012, in this thread!

Pick your favorite, your best, your worst, your breakthrough, your experiment, whatever you want, but just one. You can tell something about it if you like, or just mention which WDE it was (if you still know).

We'd like to keep the thread to our image postings, without commenting on each other's work this time, so the thread won't get too unwieldy. Comment-only posts will be removed.

We will stick this thread for a few months.

Btw, you can find 8 years' worth of WDE Hall of Fame threads here (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=960760). It's worth a peek if you haven't seen them before!

This one is from WDE August 10, 2012 Fishing boats. I used a knife and oils on this and I think it was the most fun I had painting in a while.

This is a favorite from 2012. I've been playing/fighting with acrylics all year, and I was happy with this one (not always the case! ).
From swissmiss' WDE (Mary) in April.

This is from Kay's September hosting - her Aspens.
I loved the colours, just ideal for the acrylic inks used here - it's about 9x6" I think .... it sold, so can't check!:D

I had to pick Snowball from the 14Dec2012 WDE - pretty sure he's my best! I did realize though, when looking through last year that I have a lot of catching up to do!

Bermuda Conch (not sure of the date but it was an WDE hosted by Lisilk). I liked the reflections in the wet sand and the soft colors on the shell.

This is from last December hosted by Gillian (Painter65)
I like this one (big ear and all) because it was one of those magic moments where the left side of by brain stays right out of the process.

From Lin's WDE in November...the only one I was able to participate in during 2012. It made the choosing very simple.:D I really loved the reference, and like the way this painting turned out. I hope to be able to be here more in 2013!

Ref from Nov. 23, 2012, hosted by lisilk
"Parrot Love in the Palms," watercolor, 6" x 9"

Picking was easy because I was unable to paint much of 2012 but the
shakes seem to have died off so hope to paticipate much more in 2013 :D

Connie's WDE of Nov 2 2012

From Mary Y's July 28 WDE...

started playing with adding a little 'style' to my painting about this time by adding more line, and this one was one of the first that seemed to click the way i wanted. so i chose this as it marks a new direction for me. :)

it was a hard choice, I had many 'firsts' this year, first oil, first digi, back to graphite, but decided this was my favorite from Mariannes WDE July 13, I inked in the shapes and the picture appeared, I like that kind of magic.

This is from 1-27-12. Susan (surob) was the host. I titled it " Unconditional Kind". I got excited about this painting because it was my first paint done with 100 % painting knife. I consider it my best for the year. :)

I was missing in action for 4 months so missed a lot of WDEs. I didn't make such great work too:( so I had a hard time deciding which one to put here.
I finally decided on the lazy cat. Acrylics on canvas, 8x8".

Such beautiful entries in here. My favorite piece from last year was from Helens April 13th WDE. I ended up using all sorts of techniques I hadn't tried before and I think I combined a record 7 of Helens reference pictures. :clear: I had so much fun and had no idea where I would end up.

12 X 12" canvas- acrylics, inks, clay, faux metal ( cardboard), metal fish, glass, coral, shells, beads, modeling paste. Thanks again Helen for the inspiration!

My favorite is from Connie VanWinnsen's WDE 03 Feb 2012 - I called it "Mandarin In Mondrian At Market" - I loved the way I depicted people and retailers umbrellas in bg market while the Oriental man is coming forward in his bright Mondrian patterned silk outfit.

No pre-sketch, 9x12 140lb Canson Montval, W&N watercolors

I liked this one best mostly because it was done without my beloved INK at the end. :wink2:

I ended up using this pelican in plenty of demos to draw in students. I re painted this guy way too many times to count!!! (at least 10  )

Here's probably my only 2012 WDE...guess I've been doing other things instead of WDE's (sorry)! The Shady Blue Duck, done with just a blue Tombow (water soluble) pen.

Hi everyone, sorry for posting late.
The reasons for choosing this painting was because on that time, I just jammed my right middle finger between door and corner of a wall....so it was painted softly with soft brush :)

So here it is in acrylic from Kay's WDE, March 2012 (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1041432http://)

Note: this thread will be closed at the end of this month and unstuck ...please hurry if you want to post yours and don't forget your link too, thanks.
