16 x 20 oil on canvas. 2013.

reference photo was taken in August 2012 at a state park in Missouri. Since it is raining today, I can't get a good photo of the painting so the light makes it look slightly more yellow.

You've got some nice things going here, especially in the rendering of the trees and foliage. I think you could improve her feet and also extend a real "trail" out the lower left corner so it looks less like she is ready to step over an edge into a steep area. In future works you might try blocking in your color masses with under paintings of complimentary colors, which will provide a vibrancy to the finish painting applied on top.

Thank you. I didn't realize the highlights on the top of the rock looked like feet until you mentioned it. I've done some more blending on the top of the rock so hopefully it doesn't look like feet anymore.

I would eliminate the rock, paint the feet and add the trail for a better composition.

I think that you could balance out your colors a little. Put some of that orange in the shrubs and trees and sprinkle some blue around. This will help to take the eye around the painting.
