Hello Guys ! l was thinking to put a copy that l made when l was student and obsesed by old masters, but not knowing their technique (just glazing probably)
l've started with a drawing that was fixed with hairspray ,then a made the shadows with ,l think, burnt umber (but only in the face area). The turban was made in underpainting with a wash of Violet Mars .
Then the painting was made slowly with layers of local color :)http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/05-Jan-2013/1165823-vane2.jpghttp://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/05-Jan-2013/1165823-vaneyck2.jpg

I was and still am obsessed with the Flemish masters. In fact if I was able to chose any painting I wanted to and live with it forever it would be Man with a Red Turban.
The color seems a little off for the headpiece. Is that intentional? Kudos for taking on Van Eyck.

Hello Armak! the colors are made according to my opinion of this painting :) That rose color is typical for the Northern people . l will have to put another photo ,because the colours in the painting (mine) are not so strong as in this photos.
But still ,you'll have to think that the painting has over 500 years ,so now,it look's yellowish ,but back then ,the painting had more pinkish hues :)
So ,yeah ,go for it ,paint a Van Eyck:)

l used hairspray for fixing the drawing.it really works if you don't want the charcoal to mix with your colors.Just spray the whole drawing ,and let it dry for 30 minutes .
