This is my latest OP painting on matboard with ochre tinted clear-gesso (approx. 11X15 inches) using Mungyos and Sennelier OPs. From my own reference picture upstream of Hoover Dam (Lake Meade area)

I had some trouble laying the light colors of the trees on top of the dark red rock (wish I had some nice green Senneliers but had to do some stippling of an ugly green + yellow + white).

C&C are welcome.

Attached is the latest version where I added some texture to the path based on recommendations in the SW forum.

Great job with the rocks! I was going to suggest more texture on the foreground pathway but see that you did that already! You might want to soften some of the edges on the path also so it bonds with the landscape especially as it goes into the distance.

I meant to add that the wispy clouds are great! Really has the southwest atmosphere!

Nice work and it definitely does have a Southwestern feel. I do like the addition of the texture on the path, really completes the painting.

I entered this painting in the Daniel Smith contest. I am not sure if it's against wetcanvas rules, but if you like it please vote for it at:

Search by my lastname: Irizarry
By the way, they put it under the "Pastel" category with all the soft pastels.

Thanks, Michelle

Hi Michelle: I totally missed this painting. This is a beauty, great textures in the rocks, lovely soft wisps of clouds and definitely like pathway as it leads you to the back of the painting. Very nice work! Good luck with the competition. Mary
