View Full Version : Oil Portrait - My First!

This was my first stab at a portrait with oils. An X-mas gift for my brother none the less.
Still a WIP, but I like the progress thus far...thoughts/crits??.....

Underpainting was done with Raw Umber and Titanium white, and the first grisaille layer applied over top.
The final will be kept monochromatic.

My artistic expertise lies more in the digital realm (3d modeling and matte painting), so it is refreshing for me to dive into the "traditional" mediums when I get the opportunity. It's incredible how the skills translate across the board, from digital to traditional, but yet the feeling is completely different...along with the final result! :)

This shows a bit of promise. You know you could put your own image in the reflection to make it more personal.
