View Full Version : Murky day in the Highlands

hello everyone - haven't posted for some time here or on open critique (where gremlins still prevent up-loading). This is a quick 10 x 7 in sketch. Trying to get more fluidity into my painting so have tried a number of rapid paintings without any drawing. This one turned out more sombre than intended (hence the title!) but it seemed quite atmospheric so thought I'd post it.
A Happy Christmas to you all

Hi Mike, Love the sky and distant mountains!!!!!! Might have lighten the middle tree to lessen it's importance. Nice painting.

Thanks Jan. Sky a happy accident...often happens! Trees were not well painted - late at night job and it shows. However, think I might try a larger version with a bit more sparkle in it.

Very nice. Soft, gentle, calming. A good "bedroom" painting.
Be sure your wter lines are horisontal. The line goes downhill from viewer right almost to the other side. All your water will spill to the floor! :-)

Thanks Ella. I realised the water wasn't level - painted at speed late evening as an exercise (after a glass of red wine!). Will take more care if I paint a larger version.
