View Full Version : Apples on blue silk

Hi! Just finished this OP painting based on olika's photo in the RIL (many thanks to her). It is approx. 11 x 15 inches and using Erengi's OPs and just one Sennelier stick.
Sorry that the image is a little blurry. The original also shows more variations in the reds than the picture yet the color transitions in the fabric look smoother in the original. Ughhh--it's so hard to photograph OPs!

Nicely done, Michelle. Nice vibrant color. I did this same image a while back as one of our members had put it up as a challenge.

Thanks for your comments Pat! It seems to be a popular image. I've also seen it done in watercolor. I rarely do still lifes but this was fun to do for sure.

A nice combination of primary colors, I can see why it is popular. You did a great job of painting it. There is a nice sheen to the fabric and good work on the yellows and the reds in the apples.

This looks fantastic on the screen of my phone, i'm looking forward to seeing it on a bigger screen. Those apples really look like they are sat in bright light coming in from the right. great piece

Michelle, great job on this one!
If I may offer a suggestion, it would be to get rid of the 'white' reflection / glare on each apple. I just used three fingers to cover up those white areas on the picture I see on my computer, and you don't even need them. There is enough variation in values to suggest light. Just my thought.

Wonderful sheen on the silk!
That image was used in an oil pastels "paintalong" thread 4 years ago. Here's (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=536277&highlight=apples+blue+silk)the thread, if you are interested.

Wonderful color...they look good enough to eat! I have to agree about the highlights....just soften the edges and they won't have a cut out look.

Thanks Carly and thevaliantx! The highlights are actually pinkish in real life but I agree about softening their edges.
