Hi Folks - a painting by artist Ray Campbell-Smith enthused me to have a go at this similar scene of Loch Long in Wester Ross Scotland (my all-time favourite spot anywhere). My painting is deliberately empty - not a boat, house or soul in sight .... just peace & solitude. It's simple but I hope it works.

Crits welcome.

Using WIP until OCF is back in working order.

Picture size 10 x 8 in. Bockingford watercolour paper.
Painted 2011 but re-discovered during a "sort out" and tidy up!

+1 the sort of painting you see in a shop/gallery that sells.

Very nice painting. Love the sky. Perhaps the lower left could be toned down a bit as it competes with the rest of the painting.

Lovely area, I spent some time in Plockton slightly outside Wester Ross but a lovely little place.
They were filming a Hamish Macbeth episode when I was there.

Yes, Plockton is lovely - artists' paradise. Have an oil painting of the place done by my father in the 1960's. In those days steam engines on the railway were an additional attraction. Paid a visit myself about 5 years ago and took some photos - might try and paint a scene to remind you of your Scottish roots, Andrew!

Mike I think that would really be wonderful, following in your Father's footsteps as well :)
I stayed in a little B&B in the town, the Old School House - it was run by a couple, artistic and the man had been an art teacher at one of our Private Schools here in Adelaide - small world.

Thank you Andrew, Debzy, Arnie, Trumper and pjartwc (Jan) for your comments.

Jan- I painted the foreground shore/rocks fairly strongly in tone to show up against the water. It's a beautiful spot but it seemed to me that the picture might be a bit bland without some strong foreground....maybe I was wrong but that's how I saw it.
