I read about painting gouache on vellum...is it a good surface to paint on? Reason I ask is because I have some. Wondering how archival it is...

How archival the vellum is? Wait. Wasn't vellum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vellum) the material ancient manuscripts and scrolls are made of?

John Neal sells real vellum here (http://www.johnnealbooks.com/prod_detail_list/87). I am guessing that, if you store it correctly, it'll outlast the gouache you put on it.

The Book of Kells and the Lindisfarne Gospels where written on vellum, and decorated with (probably) egg tempera, and are going strong after 1200 years, so I'd not worry too much. I am green with envy that you have some, though. Expensive stuff!

I believe Deborah Secor uses vellum for her gouache, if I'm not mistaken. You can find her in the watercolor studio, monthly gouache thread.
