I keep running across references to pastel fixatives made from casein and grain alcohol. I even hunted up a recipe. Before I get suspicious looks from Hubby when I come home with a bottle of Everclear :) can anyone speak from experience? Have you used casein as a pastel fix?

Supposedly, since it dries matte, it changes the colors less than resin-based fixes. Also, such a fixative wouldn't contain toluene like my spray cans of Krylon. I always spray outside, check the wind direction and shoo the kids away, but man, I hate that smell. :p

lol....Everclear fixative...well, you haven't gotten any replies yet so looks like YOU are the guinea pig!!!! The Sennelier fixative I used was a vinyl resin and alchohol base...meant for oil pastels...glad I did it on a piece I wasn't too worried about...it splurted and liquified the op...so make sure it's not a good piece you try it on...btw...now I don't fix...but I do on graphite...cheap hairspray...
